Brewer Quilting and Sewing is one of IHAN's distributors and they have generously given this "Silk Hearts Collection" for our Anniversary Celebration.
I love Brewer's silks and when I go to Market I make sure I go to to their Silk School House Series. These are photos I took from Spring Quilt Market 2009.

I am loving the color combo in this set. I would make a simple yet luxurious quilt that my cats would not be allow to come within 10 feet of! (Those stinkers steal every quilt and blanket we own!) I love how in your photos even a simple quilt design pops with the silk.

Or I could make many pillows for my bed, so each night I could pick a new color to have my dreams.
Hmmm or I could make something soft out of the silk to hold in hand, so whoever received it at the nursing home, would know they were loved by someone.
I could make a baby blanket for the baby coming to my sister's son and his wife. There's still time to make it, if I shall be the lucky one.
The possibilities are endless if I would win, but one thing is for sure, I will share it with someone else, so they can feel as good as I do if I would Win!
I make purses to sell, and I LOVE to use silk for the linings and other embelishments. It's a little slippery to work with, but I found that if I fuse a light-weight interfacing to it first, it's MUCH easier to work with! Thanks for the chance to win these gorgeous silks!

I have been doing some snow dyeing this winter and those silks would be just the thing to add that silky zing to the crystalline patterns of the snow dyes. I would also love to just run my hands over them for a while; they would be great therapy for April showers.

ReplyDeleteProbably...continue to experiment with pieced clothing. My daughter is young enough (9) and brave enough (free spirit personality) to wear momma's creations and so much fun to dress. I have been experimenting with a variety of pieced and quilted clothing items and she loves to wear them. Silk would take it to a whole new level.

ReplyDeleteSpring! Spring is what I would make with these fabulous silks. We still have two feet of snow in the yard, so the site of these vibrant colors brought my senses to attention. I'd make a lovely table runner for our living room, with a matching runner for the piano. And if there were enough, I'd be tempted to make a flowing scarf to lighten up my winter coat (we still need it for awhile longer . . .)

I would really love to win those silks, I have never used silk before, so it would be something new for me, I love your BOM using the silks, guess I could make that if I had these beauatiful silks, but I'm up for the challenge I think, the Silk Hearts Aurifil thread kit is also beautiful! I love all the colours in it too.

ReplyDeleteDid you know it is one of the warmest fabrics and works well as a bottom layer in the winter, while camping or while hiking?
I had silk long underwear on my Christmas list, but alas, I didn't get any. And I live in a VERY cold state so it would have come in handy.
SO I think if I won the silk I would make a camisole, for sure. I'd give some scraps to my daughter in law who is learning to crazy quilt and I'd probably incorporate some in a garment for my 5 yr old. Or maybe I would make a pillow case so I could have silken dreams. :-)

you warned me and yet I clicked! Lordy I might have a new passion! I am actually making quilts for sick kids at Childrens Hospital, Seattle through a guild (you can read about the guild here: http://katiescomfortersguild.blogspot.com/ ) mostly with donated and won fabrics. I don't know for certain but I can only imagine some of the kids have sensitive skin and silk (which yes I'll admit I would want for myself) might be a great option for them. And a few of those patterns would be PERFECT to bring joy and brightness into a hospital room

I've been collecting silks to make a wallhanging art quilt but it's taking some time to find the right silks as well as they are expensive so I just can't go out and buy everything at once. This collection that you are offering Kelly is amazing and would do wonders in getting me closer to starting my quilt.

My mother has been wanting to make a crazy quilt for years and saving fabrics for it. She does not have any silk. We saw a 100% silk crazy quilt and spoke with the maker/owner at a recent local quilt walk. My mother really really wants to make one now...but no silk and house repairs need to be made. She would be so very excited if I won this for her.

ReplyDeleteI think such beautiful fabrics will be best used for a wall hanging - i would hesitate between a folded flowers variations and English paper piecing with pentagons, hexies and diamonds.

ReplyDeleteOh my, these silks, with their lustrous colors and textures, really take quilts to another level, don't they?! If I had them in my hands, I'd first just enjoy touching them for a while! Then, I'd make them into a quilt for my mom's 75th birthday next year. I'd make a pictorial quilt, depicting one of the places she loved best in her work as a geologist; the Grand Canyon. Can't you just imagine it?

ReplyDeleteSilk is one of my favourite fabrics, and seeing I want to get into doing some textile art projects, they would make the perfect background for some of those. I'm also planning on making some origami cranes in silk and embellishing them, so these may be the perfect fabric for them also.

ReplyDeleteThe silk is beautiful. I would use it to make some special bags for me and my daughter. I would make a nice throw pillow for my bed. I would probably use some in a crazy quilt block or two - maybe for a special quilt for my entrance way. I liked the idea I read in the comments of a silk runner for a mantle - I would love to see one across the top of my piano with triangles hanging down across the front. Beautiful. ReplyDeleteI've been collecting dupioni silks for years, especially those woven with different warp and weft colors. I love the way they shift colors. My dream is to someday make myself a silk quilt for my bed, and these would go right into the stash for that project. Don't know how much I have for sure (just bought quarter yards, mostly in England more than a dozen years ago). I've drooled over these silks on their web site many times, but am just feeling too poor to buy (I keep telling myself my birthday is coming up in July!).

ReplyDeleteI've not experienced much about silks since I quilt with cottons mostly, but I have heard about silk thread just melting into applique to be invisible and that it's strength is superb. I would love to use that tray of colored silk in applique projects and maybe a satin stitch around hearts for a new grandbaby quilt would be in order....lovely luscious colors!
