Brewer Quilting and Sewing

How could anyone resist  Brewer's
Dupioni Silk

Brewer Quilting and Sewing is one of IHAN's distributors and they have generously given this "Silk Hearts Collection" for our Anniversary Celebration.

I love Brewer's silks and when I go to Market I make sure I go to to their Silk School House Series.   These are photos I took from Spring Quilt Market 2009.

See what I mean.....Silk is not just for the rich and famous any more.  We can all indulge in its rich and delicious texture and bask in the incredible colors Brewer offers.  I feel like a stalker at Market.  Either I'm the first in their class or I'm dashing around looking for Brewers School House on Silks.

If you are still breathing (if you are not....I can't think of a better way to go....and if you are just hanging on by one last little breath....

...these are some tantalizing accouterments that are not in the giveaway but I thought you just had to know about.

See what I mean about still breathing?  My heart rate has gone up just looking at these photos.  I better get a lawyer and fast. (if you are from OH ...just think Elk & Elk ROFL)

Sarah Vedeler Designs work wonderfully with Brewer's Silks.  I am not responsible for what happens to you if you click on the Sarah Vedeler Designs link.  You may be blown away.....be sure you are sitting on a chair with wheels....I was....now I'm in the next room!!!  Don't miss the free download of her pattern!!!!!

All you have to do to win this incredible "Silk Hearts Collection" is leave a  comment saying what you will use the silk for if you win.   (I just want it....does not work...sorry)

For more entries, send photos of your silk projects to IWantToWinAtIHAN@yahoo.com  along with a little description of your project and a little about yourself.

  1. Thanks for introducing me to Sarah Vedeler Designs. Lovely designs! I'd love to win this giveaway to play with these beautiful silks. So many opportunities for beautiful things to make. I'd love to make that heart quilt, but I also think I'd like to turn all of this into a fibre-arts jacket. Would make for a spectacular party jacket!

  2. I am loving the color combo in this set. I would make a simple yet luxurious quilt that my cats would not be allow to come within 10 feet of! (Those stinkers steal every quilt and blanket we own!) I love how in your photos even a simple quilt design pops with the silk.

  3. Ooo beautiful! My first thought was~ I would make a quilt!, but now I'm thinking how rich they would look in my dining room as place mats or maybe chair back covers... :-o

  4. What would I do with Dupioni Silk if I shall win?.. Oh! First thing I would do it touch it. Feel it on my fingers and face...hmmm oh enough of that! lol .
Let me think... I could make my little ones a cute little outfits, so they could out-shine all the other doggies!

Or I could make many pillows for my bed, so each night I could pick a new color to have my dreams.

Hmmm or I could make something soft out of the silk to hold in hand, so whoever received it at the nursing home, would know they were loved by someone.

I could make a baby blanket for the baby coming to my sister's son and his wife. There's still time to make it, if I shall be the lucky one.

The possibilities are endless if I would win, but one thing is for sure, I will share it with someone else, so they can feel as good as I do if I would Win!

  5. I make purses to sell, and I LOVE to use silk for the linings and other embelishments. It's a little slippery to work with, but I found that if I fuse a light-weight interfacing to it first, it's MUCH easier to work with! Thanks for the chance to win these gorgeous silks!

  6. I've been collecting some small pieces of good silk lately with the idea of making a few Lazy Girl designs. Either a whole purse, or one of those smaller pieces.

So I really NEED these silks! *silky smile*

Next an entry for the silk kit drawing -- my DD asked for a special valentine hanging for her foyer. I think the Sarah Vedeler heart designs are perfect.

  18. Probably...continue to experiment with pieced clothing. My daughter is young enough (9) and brave enough (free spirit personality) to wear momma's creations and so much fun to dress. I have been experimenting with a variety of pieced and quilted clothing items and she loves to wear them. Silk would take it to a whole new level.

I'd make a lovely table runner for our living room, with a matching runner for the piano. And if there were enough, I'd be tempted to make a flowing scarf to lighten up my winter coat (we still need it for awhile longer . . .)
Anyway, Spring is what I would make!

  42. I love silk!!!
Did you know it is one of the warmest fabrics and works well as a bottom layer in the winter, while camping or while hiking?
I had silk long underwear on my Christmas list, but alas, I didn't get any. And I live in a VERY cold state so it would have come in handy.
SO I think if I won the silk I would make a camisole, for sure. I'd give some scraps to my daughter in law who is learning to crazy quilt and I'd probably incorporate some in a garment for my 5 yr old. Or maybe I would make a pillow case so I could have silken dreams. :-)

  49. you warned me and yet I clicked! Lordy I might have a new passion! I am actually making quilts for sick kids at Childrens Hospital, Seattle through a guild (you can read about the guild here: http://katiescomfortersguild.blogspot.com/ ) mostly with donated and won fabrics. I don't know for certain but I can only imagine some of the kids have sensitive skin and silk (which yes I'll admit I would want for myself) might be a great option for them. And a few of those patterns would be PERFECT to bring joy and brightness into a hospital room

  50. If I win the Dupioni silk I'm going to make a wall hanging that's as beautiful as Sarah Vedeler's hearts. It won't be exactly like hers though - I'll think of something to make it unique. If there's any silk left over after that I'm going to make myself a small bag. I need a new bag. The silk is beautiful!

    ReplyDelete

  70. My mother has been wanting to make a crazy quilt for years and saving fabrics for it. She does not have any silk. We saw a 100% silk crazy quilt and spoke with the maker/owner at a recent local quilt walk. My mother really really wants to make one now...but no silk and house repairs need to be made. She would be so very excited if I won this for her.

  116. I see all those lovely colors and I think of a Victorian-era fan quilt - maybe some velvet and embroidery embellishment as well? Oh, yum.

    ReplyDelete
  117. Those colors are wonderful, better than ice cream or candy (maybe not kit kats but they're chocolate). I would love to play with top stitching with those. I'm currently crocheting butterflies and would like to do machine stitching on their wings.

    ReplyDelete
  118. I've been collecting dupioni silks for years, especially those woven with different warp and weft colors. I love the way they shift colors. My dream is to someday make myself a silk quilt for my bed, and these would go right into the stash for that project. Don't know how much I have for sure (just bought quarter yards, mostly in England more than a dozen years ago). I've drooled over these silks on their web site many times, but am just feeling too poor to buy (I keep telling myself my birthday is coming up in July!).

  119. I would use the silk to make an art quilt. I also want to make a few scarves at some point, so these might work for that, too. I'm so new at sewing REAL silk, it will just be fun to play with rich fabric I didn't deconstruct from clothes I get at the second hand store.

    ReplyDelete
  120. I've not experienced much about silks since I quilt with cottons mostly, but I have heard about silk thread just melting into applique to be invisible and that it's strength is superb.
