Day 12 Giveaway #2 Mary Ellen's Best Press

IHAN's 30 Days of Giveaways
Anniversary Celebration
Day 12 Giveaway # 2
The Clear Starch Alternative

I learned about Mary Ellen's Best Press from my quilting friends in Pennsylvania.  I have not used any other starch since buying my first bottle of Best Press.  What I like about Best Press is that it is clear, doesn't flake, and it has a stain shield.  I remember when I introduced Best Press to Rick (my Mr. McSteamy).  He could not believe that it did not leave flakes and that it starched his work shirts so nicely.  I'm not kidding when I say we have a bottle at each ironing board and a backup gallon upstairs at Rick's ironing board and another gallon for refills at my ironing board.

Quoting Mary Ellen :

There wasn't any new product for ironing in years - then I got sick and tired of using aerosol starch! So now, I've introduced a clear crisp starch with a lovely scent that makes ironing more enjoyable. It's in a non-aerosol can, so it's environmentally-friendly and you can see how much is left, too. There's no flaking, clogging, or white residue on dark fabrics. A special stain shield protects fabrics, and the product helps resist wrinkles. Best of all, it's more effective than any starch you've ever used.

Here are some quotes from other Best Press users:
"My quilting ladies love Mary Ellen's Best Press. We put a sample out for them to use during classes and once they have tried it, they have got to have it!

*the scents are lovely, not over-powering
*there is no residue left on the fabric
*it provides a little extra stability when working with bias edges
*it aids pressing curved piecing like on the double wedding ring pattern
*seams press flatter and crisper for precision piecing
Many of my quilter's buy it by the gallon.
We have only good things to say about Mary Ellen's Best Press. Thank you for making a quality product that is a joy to use, Kathy Rutherford, owner of Calla Lily Quilt Shop"

"I am a new consumer of Mary Ellen Products. As sick as it may sound, I like to iron, and have been a frequent user of Niagara Spray starch for many years. I had the opportunity to try "Best Pressed". Can't say enough good things about Best Pressed. Product lasts longer than Niagara, does not flake or leave any type residue on clothing after ironing. Also leaves a nice fragrance on clothing. Yuo should try it." -Lynda, Texas                          (taken from Mary Ellen's Product website)

Aren't these the cutest little bottles?  Best Press now has a gift bag with six 2 oz bottles of each of their scents.  These would make a wonderful Easter Basket surprise or a fun  way to say Happy Birthday or Thank You to a quilting friend.

Mary Ellen's Best Press is acid free and made in the USA!!!

I know you are going to be thrilled that Mary Ellen Products have sent six bottles of Mary Ellen's Best Press (16 oz), to be given away to six very lucky IHAN blog readers.  The Tea Rose Garden scent will be put into the Grand Prize Drawing.  To win one of the other five bottles of Mary Ellen's Best Press leave a comment here on this post telling us what you like about Best Press if you have used it.  You've not tried Best Press?  Please tell us why you would like to win a bottle.  We will draw 5 names for this drawing. (The sixth one goes into the Grand Prize Drawing:)

  2. Best Press is the next best thing to sliced bread. I love the lavender sent...it's wonderful stuff and I will not iron without it!

  3. Hi, I have never used it before and starch is so messy, I would love to give this a try. Thanks for the chance.

  4. Wow! Another product I haven't yet tried but have heard a lot about! I hear it doesn't leave any residue!

  5. I just started using it with the quilt I started cutting last week. I'm using jelly roll strips, cut into triangles, and I like to starch the strips to keep the bias edges from getting distorted. I love the scent and have not yet noticed any flaking, so I'm gonna say that claim is true. I use a lot of it, so another bottle would be handy!

  6. I've used Best Press for a while after discovering it at my quilt shop. It's great!! I love the scent, and I especially like the results. Even stubborn creases iron out easily, and it gives fabric more body as I work with it.

  9. I'd love to win some. I think it would make ironing less tedious. And I love the smell of lavendar.

    ReplyDelete
  10. I love the smell of this stuff. It kind of refreshes the air when you're ironing. I also love that it doesn't flake. I don't feel like I'm gumming up my fabric when I use it.

  11. Whew, another product I didn't know about. I keep a can of spray starch and a can of spray sizing buy by ironing boards. I use spray starch as I prepare fabric for maching embroidery. I use starch on some clothing also (I still like ironed clothing) and I hate the white residue on dark clothing. This sounds like something that I would love to try and the fragrance is an added bonus

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  35. every time I go to teh store I have "starch" on my list, and every time I think "gee there has to be somethign better than this out there!" and leave wth no startch, nothing else, just suffer through ironing/pressing things. This sounds like exactly whatI have been looking for and need in my house!

    ReplyDelete
  36. I just *love* this stuff! The scent is divine and it's just so easy to use. I use this when quilting and sewing -- I love how my fabric becomes a bit crisp and how the creases really hold.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I have never used any starch of any kind in my life, until the other day at my LQS I tried some of the Mary Ellen Best Press and I loved it, I tried the citrus and ended up buying the lavendar, because I love the scent of lavender, the scent's are not over powering, they are really nice and fresh.... love it!! Would love to win some so I can try the other scents. Thanks....

    ReplyDelete
  39. I've not used any of the Best Press products, but I'd sure like to!!! Here's why: Scent - I love scent. Spray starch, at my house, is gunky. I need something that doesn't gunk! Oh Please - I'd so like to try this for my ironing.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I absolutely love Best Press! It is hard to get here on the island of Oahu, but when I find it, I buy a couple of bottles. If I order it online, I try to buy a couple of bottles or wait for someoene offering free shipping - since shipping for one bottle generally is the price of one bottle. I am down to my last bottle and need to order (or win - hint hint) another bottle soon.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Have had this on my "to-buy" list for a while now, but haven't bought it yet. Would love to win a bottle to try what sounds like an amazing product.

  44. I haven't used the Best Pressed yet. I am getting ready to start a quilt with a bunch of circles and I would like to give this a try instead of the other starch they recommend. I like the idea that it comes in different scents.

  45. I would love to try one of these. My husband obsessed with heavy startch on his work shirts-I think I would like something that has a pleasant scent.

  46. I've never used this, but the gals at my local fabric store say it's fabulous. The only 'flavor' they carry, though - is the lavender & I just can't stand lavender. BUT I see there is a Citrus Grove & that sounds delightful!

    ReplyDelete
  47. Love how it makes the iron side across the fabric!

    ReplyDelete
  48. Once I discovered Mary Ellen's Best Press, I have become an ardent fan. I simply *love* the way the fabric becomes "sturdy" without being stiff as a board. It makes sewing on bias edges so much easier. Sewing bias around scallops is a breeze. Ensuring blocks remain their proper size is a snap. Plus all the other perks (non-aerosol, no flaking, no bug attraction) ... and you've got one heck of a product. The ONLY aspect that holds me back from buying it by the gallon (the most economical purchase) is that, unfortunately, the price is higher than the nuts on a giraffe. ::sigh:: :-( I'd love to use MEBP on all of of my blocks, but sadly, it is just cost-prohibitive. Therefore, I tend to use it only on "important" blocks ... which makes me sad; aren't *all* my blocks important? All of my quilts certainly are. :-)

  49. I have just recently heard of Best Press and have not yet found it here. Maybe I just have not looked in the right places. I sure would love to win some.

    ReplyDelete
  76. I bought a bottle last year and really liked it, but when I went to replace it my only local fabric shop was sold out. I bought a bottle of Niagra spray at the grocery store and while it was originally very nice, it has now gunked up my iron and ironing board. I am definitely going back to the Best Press!

    ReplyDelete
  77. I've never used Best Press... or any other spray starch product. I've never been very interested in ironing. In fact, I am so UNinterested that I buy clothes that don't ever require ironing.

However, since I've become a quilter, I've started ironing quite a bit. One of my friends just started starching her quilt tops before she bastes them together and she says it works GREAT. I'd love to try Best Press to see how I like it for quilt top starching.

    ReplyDelete

There are so many new things I want to try after reading about them on your giveaways. I think I'll make a list and at the end of all the giveaways I can purchase those I really want to try instead of making a purchase every week. Because it seems like I "just" have to try that week's featured product.

  108. I LOVE Best Press! I also like the way it firms up my fabrics and make it easier to machine quilt and also causes less stretching on those bias edges! 131. I've used Best Press, and it gives the loveliest finish to my husband's shirts. I love to iron anyway, and this makes it even better. Try it if you haven't used it yet.

  132. I have not tried Best Press yet and it sounds wonderful and scented besides , mmmmm
    Hope I win

  134. Wow, I haven't used starch in years because I HATE the aerosol stuff. I would absolutely LOVE to try some Best Press!! I love that it has a stain shield. I really hope I win one of these lovely bottles but if not, I will probably purchase one just for the experience. :-) Thanks for the chance to win!

  137. OMG this is the BEST product EVER!! I use it all the time and I love it. My DH uses it too and he adores it. I would love to win this to be able to take it with me to quilting classes or to slip in DH's suitcase when he travels so he has his favorite to use when he has to iron his shirts when he is out of town!

  138. i have not used Best Press before.. first time i have heard about it.. but it sounds like something i would like to use.. that is if the scents are not very strong (allergic to lots of scents).. cant use the regular starches because of allergies..

  139. OH I JUST LOVE BEST PRESS!!! No ands ifs or buts. Best stuff on the market.

  140. Best Press sounds like a good product....I'd love to try it!

  141. I love the scents and the lightness of Best Press - I use it frequently!

  142. I've so many wonderful things about Best Press, but alas, it's kinda pricey and doesn't fit into the budet right now. Would love to win a bottle!

  143. Would love to win a bottle of Mary Ellen's Best Press as I have heard it works so much better than the spray starch I use now.

  144. I just gave a program on fusibles to my quilt guild and had 11 different kinds. Tested for wash-ability, ease of stitching, transfering design, etc. Misty Fuse was a favorite as it was so soft and did not release after laundering. Learned you can transfer a pattern to it by using parchment paper and tracing design with pencil. Press paper to fused back of fabric and design transfers.

  145. I have never used it, but always heard it is wonderful. I'd love to win it and try it out!

  146. Ha! I never ironed until I bacame a quilter....but I still only iron my fabric and not my hubby's shirts! IF I win a bottle, I'll give it to my DIL who irons my sons shirts for church...she keeps him looking his best. She deserves this wonderful stuff@

  147. Best Press is the best! I use it all the time, and love the citrusy scent. It would be great to try all the new scents. They've come out with some new ones since I last bought. Thank you for the giveaways!

  148. I LOVE this product, especially the unscented version. It adds great body to the fabric, doesn't flake, light spray without adding too much increasing your risk of scorching your fabric, and you don't have to wait for it to be soaked into the fabric before ironing. Great stuff!

  149. I keep hearing about this but haven't tried it yet... it is said to be fantastic... another new thing for me to try!

  150. I just recently purchased the unscented spray at a quilt shop sale and was amazed at the difference in using it. I purchased the Lavender scent, and even though I love ironing (I'm a domestic diva) I make excuses to iron things over and over just to smell it and see the difference in my fabric. I have to try every flavor (I mean scent!)

  151. I've never used it but hate the aerosol cans. They always get gummed up and to have a choice of scents would be nice.

  152. I haven't tried this...or heard of it. I use this lavender scented ironing spray but I think it would be fun to try new scents.

    Thanks!

  153. IHAN was the first that I had heard of Best Press. While I haven't had a chance to try it yet, I would love to. I think the most immediate thing that jumped out at me is that it's not an aerosol. Much more friendly to the environment - a point near and dear to my heart. Thanks.

  154. Once again, you have introduced me to a product I've never heard of. I like the idea that Best Press is in non aerosol bottles. I use a pressing cloth for most things because the starch leaves such a heavy mark. Now I can skip that.

  155. What a fantastic product this is-wish everyone used it, and they probably will soon. Hope I win.

  156. I've never used Best Press or heard of it ...ohh the things I am learning from your blog!! It sure sounds like it would make my ironing be a nicer chore.

  160. Best Press almost makes me like ironing! This stuff is fantastic.

  161. I would love to try a starch that doesn't flake. And a scented starch would make ironing a little enjoyable.
