Quilt in a Day
Oh, so you like gossip....well you are going to love this little tid bit of gossip. Eleanor has a new book coming out in April. The title is American Tatoos on Biker Babes Booties. Ok, Ok, Ok....you are no fun....I'll tell the whole truth and nothing but the truth this time. The real title is "Quilt Blocks on American Barns." Quilt in a Day is taking pre-orders and if you order before April 28th you'll get a free collectors pin. Day and Night Quilt
by Eleanor Burns
Quilt in a Day
Eleanor Burns has created this beautiful Day and Night Quilt design and it makes dramatic quilts. This book provides insights on using strip techniques and it comes with an acrylic template right in the back of the book!!! This fun design can be made with two or three contrasting colors and there is a section in this book to help you with fabric selection. The instructions are well written and include great visuals. Full yardage and cutting charts are included to make quilts in various sizes from table runners to a king size quilt. The book also has a great gallery of quilts that will inspire you!
One lucky IHAN blog reader will win Day and Night Quilt and it is autographed too!!! Thank you Eleanor and Quilt in a Day....everyone would love to win an autographed copy of Day and Night Quilt.
Some of you may remember this photo as I have posted it previously. Look at the spark and vitality in Eleanor's eyes. I don't think she could give a boring lecture even if she wanted to. On the left is her much younger boy friend. She was dancing up a storm with him the very next evening. I'm telling you she is one "wild" lady!!! (OK all right already.....so it is her son....but the story of the much younger man was fun and much more gossipy don't you think?)
You can follow Eleanor on her new blog too. Just go to www dot StripQuilter dot com and you can read Eleanor's most recent posts. I know what you are thinking now....oh sure Kelly...."Strip Quilter" now I know you are lying again. NOPE....not this time! www.StripQuilter.com is really Eleanor's blog....don't believe me....just click on the link and see for yourself. (Everyone who reads the IHAN blog regularly already knows that when I lie....I say so...I'm what's known as an honest liar)
Quilt in a Day also has a newsletter and a forum too. There is no reason you need to be getting your Eleanor gossip here....you can just go straight to the source for the real nitty gritty...lol :)
Back to the Giveaway!!! If you would like to win an autographed copy of Day and Night Quilt by Eleanor Burns you need to leave a comment on this post telling us why you want to win this book or if you have any good Eleanor Burns stories you'd like to share....that comment will count too!!! I've heard some great ones from Lancaster recently.
Thank you Eleanor and Quilt in a Day for joining IHAN in celebrating our First Anniversary!!!
Smiles,
Kelly
PS....Stay tuned for more Quilt in a Day Giveaways coming before April 15th. Also, my computer seems to be back on line and it was not my computer....it was a server on my site so all is well now. Thanks for the kind words and thoughts. One last thing....EPCOT ROCKS BIG SOCKS :)
Your version is much better. ha ha.
ReplyDeleteThe only Eleanor Burns story I have is in our Church women's work meeting, someone was demonstrating quilt making and said that there were several on PBS who had great shows. "But", she added, "Don't watch that one who is all smiles and throws the fabric over her shoulder as she cuts, she is obnoxious." I have watched her, in spite of the advice. She is really talented.
I love the story of her and her younger boyfriend. ha ha. You are funny.

Eleanor Burns is a ghost writer. Okay so I'm lying. Just thought I'd try it out since I have no stories about her. If I win her book and make some of her quilts I'll probably have some stories to tell.
ReplyDeletewow - eleanor burns' boyfriend is real dishy!!!!and i must look out for her new book on tattoos ha ha ha - seriously though american books can be difficult to find here in the uk and so expensive
ReplyDeletegill
I have several Eleanor Burns books. Her direction are clear and easy to follow.

No tengo ninguna historia , tampoco sus libros, pero seguramente si gano el libro tendre edredones y tambien historias para contar-
ReplyDeleteI love strip piecing so the "insights on using strip techniques" caught my eye in a big way.
ReplyDeleteI love Mark Lipinksi's story of learning to quilt watching Eleanor Burns - the early production values were awful and he watched to make fun of it- but Eleanor's infectious love of quilting got him hooked!
I love Eleanor!! She makes quilting achievable for the beginner! She can definately install an "can do" attitude in everyone!
ReplyDeleteMy mother introduced me to the world of E. Burns and her happy craziness. We watch her show on RFDTV. My mother (79 years young) saw a quilt on display made with the Night and Day pattern and wanted to make it. But, she had too many things on her plate. Would love to have this book for her...and then I could help her collect fabric:))
ReplyDeleteI was lucky enough to see Eleanor and her son (Orion...the one you pictured here) do a lecture at the recent AQS show in Lancaster. She is a real PEACH and lots of fun and so is her son!!! I truly would LOVE to get this book and template as it's one I don't have. I am seriously considering pre-ordering the barn quilt book, too.
ReplyDeleteI do love strip quilting and am so excited to find this new blog! Thanks. I'd like to win this book bz I really do love strip quilting and need some new ideas! I don't own any of her books but I wish I did!
ReplyDeleteI made my very first quilt so many years ago with Eleanor Burn's log cabin Make It In a Day quilt. Obviously, I never do anything in a day but I did it. I made my first quilt and have still have that quilt of so many memories.
ReplyDeleteI've used Eleanor Burn's books to teach my granddaughters to quilt. She has great directions. I also love her Flying Geese templates and sewing method. They make the most perfect flying geese.
ReplyDeleteMy sister went to her studio and brought me back fabric and a stripping tote bag. Yes,
ReplyDeleteI have a wonderful sister that spoils me so if I win I will give the book to her .

you may not belive this, but the only quilt book I own currently is teh "quilt pink" book. I don't have any that teach me anything about quilting. I keep trying to steal my moms books (she's been at it for over 20 years!) but she keept catching me. I belive that "they" say Elenor is a wonderful teacher/author so sign me up!!!
ReplyDeleteI don't have an Elenor story, butI will tell you when my hubby is not home and I see her show is on, I will watch it. I just love how she flings fabric about, how her nails are always perfect, and how she has outrageous outfits to go with her themes. I dream of throwing my scraps over my sholder and sweeping them up latter, but my sewing space is in the living room, and I have an 8 month old who puts EVERYTHING in her mouth!!
Eleanor is such a talented and inspirational woman. And, truly an approachable celebrity! She gives from her heart! Can't think of any stories, just that she truly is a lovely woman in person and on tv.

I love Eleanor's teaching methods - very clear and easy to master. I'd love having a copy of this book.
ReplyDeletewhew, you had me a little worried about the American Tattoos on Biker Babes Booties, I thought that maybe Eleanor was having some kind of break down. She does have quite the handsome son doesn't she? She is so funny, but I just can't do the throw the trimming over the shoulder and on the floor as she does, I need the trash can for that.
ReplyDeleteI would love to winthis book as I don't have any quilting books yet:)
ReplyDeleteEleanor's books always have easy, well-written directions. I'm sure this one does too. I don't have any Eleanor stories but every time I see her at a quilt show, she always has a huge smile. You can't help but be happy around her.
ReplyDeleteI love Eleanor Burns' tv show, she's been a favorite for years. Her books are always so thorough - they are the best patterns to use when teaching beginning quilters.
ReplyDeleteI've never made an Eleanor Burns pattern, and that is just shameful! I would like to win this book so I can own a piece of immortality, make a lovely quilt, and not be visited by the Quilt Police for my omission! Thanks for the opportunity!
ReplyDeleteWould love to win this book! Have been thinking about buying it but will just hope and wait! Elnore was the first teacher I took a class from when she and I both started out.

If it were not for Eleanor Burns I never would have started quilting to begin with. I watched her on PBS and saw how easy she made it look. So, I bought the book and followed her on TV and made a quilt for my husband and I to sleep under. Thank you Eleanor Burns.
ReplyDeleteOh how I love all of Eleanor's books. I do not have this one. How I hope I win it.
ReplyDeleteI love watching Quilt in a Day! My husband even tolerates watching all the shows I have TiVOed.
ReplyDeleteI watched many videos of her and I really believe she is the one instructor who really "taught" me the most. I remember her tips and instructions because of the delightful maner in which she delivers them. I'd love to have one of her books as well.
ReplyDeleteElanor's patterns are always so pretty but she keeps the piecing simple so everyone can have a success with them.
