Quilt in A Day - Eleanor Burns at Spring Quilt Market 2010

Edited 6/29/10
Lady Eleanor Burns Schoolhouse Presentation Spring Quilt Market 2010

Lady Eleanor is sporting an apron inspired by her new book, Quilt Blocks on American Barns.  You have to know if Lady Eleanor is talking there will be smiles, laughter and everyone will have a great time!!
This is a beautiful example that was held up for showcase how beautiful the patterns are from Quilt Blocks on American Barns.  This particular quilt was made by Patricia Knoechel and was quilted by Annie Potter, long arm quilter.  The lavender and green really appeals to me. Edit: I applogize for the misspelling of the machine
quilter for Lavender Fields.  The correct spelling is Amie Potter.  Thanks to who ever sent the comment!!

Diana Edgemon made this quilt in warm natural tones from the Kansas Troubles Fabric line.
Lady Eleanor continues to talk while a crazed Farmer rifles through her belongings.  What fun would a Schoolhouse on Barn Quilt Blocks be without the entire cast right?
I like the energy of the colors unfortunately I did not get the name of the person who made this quilt.  It can be difficult to take photos with one hand and write with the other!
You know I resonate with this quilt, "The Funny Farm"  made by Sue Peters.  I think this might just explain some of the following photos too.
Eleanor continues to talk and says something about when Pigs Fly and then came a Flying Pig right up the isle....what a hoot.
Posted by Picasa
Then came a crazy man being chased by an attendant from the local "home of the mentally otherly abled."
I have no idea how this fella managed to escape while still wearing a straight jacket.  Yes, that is a straight jacket for those of you who have never seen one...LOL.
I think they need to use more restraints next time....perhaps his shoe laces should be tied together so he could not run so fast.
After Schoolhouse I was walking down the hall and the Quilt In A Day Clan were gathered chatting.  I asked for a photo and they all smiled.  What a fun loving group.
Then they insisted I get into the photo.....I was reluctant to stand with such a clan....but I thought I would do them a favor :)  Snickers.

On the Market Floor I stopped by the Quilt In A Day booth several times but Lady Eleanor and Prince Orion were always working.  I decided I would just go ahead and shoot some pix.

Twice As Nice Plus More is the pattern you are looking at on the back wall.  It includes instructions for 3 quilts.  I just love the scalloped edges on the border below.   They used the Scallops, Vines, & Waves Template by Quilt In A Day.  My mood feels lighter just looking at this quilt again.
Orion and Eleanor were kind enough to give me this incredible gift pictured below.  You can imagine my surprise and gratitude.
It includes an Autographed copy of Quilt Blocks on American Barns, a very fun tote bag and project bag,  a pin with a photo of Eleanor, a package of "On Eleanor's Farm" pre-printed fusible web that includes 6 Chickens and 6 Roosters, and a package of "Quilt Blocks on American Barns" fusible web, non-woven fusible interfacing and templates that includes Windmills, Chickens and Roosters, Gambrel Barn Silos, Gothic Barn Roofs, "American Barns" text and half rectangle template.

Quilt Blocks on American Barns has excellent photos and instructions for completing each project.   There are stories of some of the barns Eleanor visited and lots of great pictures too.

Here is a close-up of the pin.....isn't it great? I think so too

You all know that when people give me things I typically have a hard time not giving it away on my blog.....it just seems like the right thing for me to do.  So, I'm going to give all of you an opportunity to win this gift package that includes everything you see above in the photo.  Well.....almost everything......

That pin jumped from the photo onto my camera strap and it won't come off.  I'm so terribly sorry to say that it will NOT be included in the giveaway.  I'm really sorry. (fiction.....the part about being sorry )

Leave a comment on this post telling me why you want to win this great collection and you have to promise you will make a Barn Quilt or wall hanging.  Non-reply bloggers and anonymous posts will not be counted unless your e-mail address is included in the comment.  The drawing will be done by random number generator on the 4th of July.

Smiles,
Kelly

  5. I love Eleanor Burn's books and I enjoy the shows she puts on at Paducah. This new book with the barns is a winner. I would love to make this quilt.

  6. You always make me smile ,Kelly. I want to win because I have a huge barn right across from my house that at one time was home to 150 dairy cows so you see I have spent a good many hours there. Along with very long days spent working inside those walls many memories and life lessons were accomplished there. I have been patiently waiting for that book because I see a quilt for my sweet farmer hubby. Thanks for sharing , Kelly.

  7. I want to make one of these cause my dad is a retired farmer. I've made him a quilt with lots of barns on it, but this would be even better! Probably a hanging tho, cause he lives in FL; quilts are not really needed down there much.

So I PROMISE! *S* I can't believe you're even taller than those boys! My gosh.

  8. Eleanor's show (most are reruns) airs on RFD TV and my mother and I watch it regularly. We live on a farm so I actually could hang the quilt in one of the barns when we make it! (well, just for a little while) I know that my mother would appreciate and enjoy this prize package. Her grandmother, mother, aunts, great aunts, and sister were all old timey quilters too. Thanks for the giveaway.

  9. I would love to win Elenor Burns prize. She has been my favorite quilter since she started. Yep I was in one of her first demo classes she gave and have the first autographed spiral, non professional book she published. Made quite a few of her first "Quilt In A Day" quilts when I was just learning.

  10. Omigosh! How exciting it must have been to see Eleanor Burns in person. She's so hilarious, I still watch her show every week on RFDTV. I promise, promise, promise to make a Barn quilt. My kitchen is in roosters and we have a farm, sadly barnless tho unless you count the ugly old shed which houses tractor stuff. Please enter my name in your drawing, Dianne in UT dkspinner@q.com

  11. I love Eleanor Burns and really credit her with really getting me into quilting. I had done some, but was absolutely intrigued with how simple it was to make some of the things she showed on her PBS show many many years ago. I would be thrilled to win this giveaway!

  15. When I first learned to quilt, Quilt in A Day propelled me into strip cutting and piecing. Eleanor revolutionized my quilting and that's been 25 years ago! I would LOVE to have this new book. Her patterns are so easy to follow and being that we are moving into a NEW house, how cool it would be to have a BARN quilt hanging on the wall! Thanks so much for including me in this sweet giveaway :-)

p.s. you deserve to keep the cool pin.

  20. How Cool to see Eleanor Burns! I attended a "talk" by her sister, Pat, last month. She covered the barns and showed us the cutest wall hanging that had used the barn pattern but made it into a church! It was beautiful! She spoke for 2 hours!! It was great! Would love to enter the giveaway!

I love barn blocks. There is so much history with them.

  27. I want to win this collection because Eleanor Burns was my very first quilt teacher...via PBS of course!! Until I met Eleanor, I never knew of the existence of rotary cutters, cutting mats and strip cutting and piecing. In 1991, this woman changed my life forever! I would love to honor her by making a barn quilt!

  28. I would love to win this quilt package. I think that a barn quilt made in bright colors would be great for the animals that live here in my house (mostly stuffed-never formerly alive).

I have really enjoyed reading the updates from Market. I miss going!

  29. Oh, my gosh - what fun! Would you believe I've never watched an Eleanor Burns show, but from the looks of things, I'll have to find one! Looks like y'all had too much fun!! Here's a thought - you need a note taker, and I love to travel and am teaching myself to quilt. How much easier it would be for us BOTH, if I just tagged along WITH you! I'd love to take all the notes you needed IF I could tear my eyeballs away from all the magnificent quilts and colors!! You can email me directly at kcallander989@gmail.com, and yes, yes, yes, I absolutely PROMISE to make a barn quilt (who knows when, but I will!). Thanks for sharing your fun with us!

  32. What a fun prize- I think it would be great to win as I love old barns and have an aunt and uncle who will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary next summer- I am sure it would help me create a quilt for them. My first quilt was Eleanor Burns quilt in a day Log Cabin Quilt. I made it in 1987. Thanks for sharing your loving prize.

  35. Thanks for a wonderful post, I love reading your adventures. Hey maybe you should write a book. Kelly in Quiltland.

  36. I would love the book and yes I would make a barn quilt. I am from Amish country and the barns there have hex signs hung on the barns to ward away the bad spirits. I love the idea of a quilt block instead and I was thinking of painting a quilt block for my husbands workshop which looks just like a mini barn. I have also been noticing a new trend on the homes by the beaches here. They are putting metal wall hangings on the houses, and they look great.

  37. I've NEVER made a Quilt In A Day pattern, and I respect and admire Eleanor Burns. So I promise to make one from her book if I win. Pick me, pick me!

  38. I would LOVE to win this book! I promise I would make this quilt because I teach at a regional VO-AG school and this would be the perfect quilt to give to that department! I coach a Farm Business Team for that department and we won first place and are going to Nationals in October in Indiana!!!! I could just see the look on the department chair's face to receive a quilt like this!
Eleanor Burns is a riot and I would love to see her in action! Who knows, maybe someday!

Thanks so much for the wonderful opportunity to win!

  39. Hi Kelly, I'd love to win the great package, because I hope to make lots of quilts in the future, and like fabric, you can't enough patterns either! Love reading your posts...even if I don't always comment! Hugs Naomi from Australia

  40. I haven't ever made a barn or other quilt with buildings, but these are intriguing. I especially like the 2nd one in the picture and I think a small wall hanging size would be great for my SIL, who lives on an actual farm and has a real barn complete with animals!

    ReplyDelete
  41. Who wouldn't want to win this bundle from the funny queen of quilting!!!! I actually am planning on painting a quilt block on our barn! Haven't decided the block, yet......
Thanks for the chance to win!

  44. I love reading your blog. The stripper is so fun to watch. She came to our guild once. Very fun to be around just like you

  45. It sounds like you had fun and to be included in the family photo - wow! I would love to make a barn quilt. I always thought a barn, well, was a barn, like the wooden Sussex ones I'd grown up with (in the UK)or the Welsh stone barns I found when I moved there. Coming to America was mind blowing, so many different types of barns and red barns are for real!

    ReplyDelete
  46. I would love to win this giveaway. I love pictures of barns and would love to make a quilt with them on it. I use to come up to where I now live and take pictures of old barns. Maybe I could include blocks made from my pictures. in the quilt once I see how the blocks in the book are made.

  47. You are ALWAYS giving something away! I love Miss Burns! My very first trip around the world was her quilt in a day pattern- took several days LOL, even with my husband's help. I do promise to make a wall hanging ;)...thanks for this chance, Sandy in MD

  48. Wow! It looks like you had just too much fun! I love all of EB's quilts. If I win, I promise to put the barn quilt on my bucket list -- unfortunately it's a VERY long list!

  49. If you have to "just get rid of it", I'd love to use the tote and project bag to round up the fabric for my barn quilt. It has been in the design phase since at least the early '90's when I saw "Barn Again". The book, pre-prints and templates would give me a much needed kick start!

Even though I live out west, I've taken quite a few pictures of the Ohio Bicentennial Barns. The barn that was selected from my home county belonged to my grade school baton teacher. Yes, I was a twirler! I claim several Ohio home counties, and will always be a Buckeye, no matter where I live.

I haven't made it to the Adams County project - yet... Kelly - want to go with me this September? Or, how about the Quilt Gardens tour along the Heritage Trail over in Indiana's Amish country? It's a lot closer and they have all the beautiful quilt blocks in gardens and on the buildings. We'll talk...

    P.S. I could live in a barn!!
