Wednesday is the day to raise our "e-notion IQ". What is "e-notion IQ" you ask? Why it's my new Wednesday blog feature where I will review a sewing, quilting or stitching notion - unsolicited - no company or person has paid me or sent me anything to do the product reviews (this is typically the case here at IHAN...otherwise I tell ya) each Wednesday. Have a item you've been wondering about? E-mail me or leave a comment on this post and I'll do my best to do a review for you.
I'm starting with the True Sharp Power Rotary Blade Sharpener by The Grace Company. I've been surprised lately when people have asked about blade sharpeners and they did not know about the True Sharp Power Rotary Blade Sharpener. So I'll show you how mine works....and boy does it work!
The sharpener comes with two fine grit sharpening stones and two coarse grit stones, a cleaning cloth, blade sharpening oil and a blade handler (blue tweezers in the back).
I spent a lot of time with my grandmother when I was growing up and she didn't throw anything away...seriously...she had hundreds of bread ties. Waste not want not....I'm sure you've heard that one before...here are my old rotary blades....cuz you know I don't throw them away
As you can see I've saved them forever and I have several of these cases marked "Old"....the new ones I mark "New" so I don't get them mixed up.
This baby is filthy....just how it was when I took it out of my rotary cutter way back. So now I'll show you how I sharpened it....really simple to do...just use the blade handler so you don't cut your fingers.
Before I sharpen a blade I put some of the sharpening oil on the stones. Here I have the fine grit stones in the sharpener because this blade doesn't have any nicks. After putting the blade into the sharpener I close it and push the button for apx. 30 seconds. The instructions say to add a little more oil so I'm open it and add a drop or so...then I hold down the button (it does make noise....that thing is spinning fast so it isn't exactly quiet). When I open the sharpener I press down on the little lever and it pops my blade up.
Check out how sharp this baby is now!!! The True Sharp Power Rotary Blade Sharpener sharpens 28mm, 45 mm and 60 mm rotary blades. You can't beat it....you get really sharp rotary blades and you don't have to buy blades near as often so you save money too :)
I hope your "e-notion IQ" has been increased by a few points today....any questions....feel free to ask. Click here if you are interested in purchasing a True Sharp Power Rotary Blade Sharpener and you will be magically transported to IHAN.
Smiles,
Kelly
EDIT:
Now for an update the Truesharp Power Rotary Blade Sharpener review from last Wednesday. Many people asked how many times a rotary blade can be resharpened. Good question right? I knew I could sharpened my blades several times but I did not have an "official" answer so I called The Grace Company and spoke to their service department. I was told they have sharpened blades many times over....50-100 times. Of course some of the nicks are too deep to grind out so then a new blade is needed. I'll add this information to that post as well....just thought you'd want to know :)
Nifty e-notion. I've never heard of it, and definitely am intrigued by it. What a money-saver. (That last one was the most important statement in this comment, and really should have been listed first!)
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing.
I had never heard of it either, looks like it does a nice job on sharpening.

I have never heard of this until now. How cool is this?!?! I have those individual dangerous sharpeners made by Tri Sharp. I love the fact that one tool will sharpen all three sizes.
ReplyDeleteThat's a new gadget to me! Thanks for telling us about it.
ReplyDeleteI am so excited for these Wednesdays, this does look like an awesome product and will surely save money in the long run. How many time can you resharpen a blade?
ReplyDeleteThis product must be a well-kept secret, as I've never heard of it either. I just got a ton of blades for a great price, so when I have enough of them need sharpening, I know who to come to!
ReplyDeleteWow, I'm impressed....and intrigued. How many sharpenings can one blade handle - do they get too thin like rotors on your car, if you sharpen them too many times? Whoohoo.....headed over to the shop. I think I will put this on my wish list for hubby's Christmas gifting! :)

Great gadget. I love the link to the product too.
ReplyDeleteDo you know this is perfect timing Kelly...cause you know I ordered one from YOU...I am just waiting for it to arrive. Sew I guess I won't be calling you to see how it works will I....
ReplyDeleteand I had no idea about this either everyone...I was searching for sharpeners for blades which led me right to Kelly..Imagine that....I am going to start asking for everyone's blades and not tell them why lol. ( not really)
WOW! How many times can you resharpen a blade? I think maybe my quilty friends and I all need to chip in and buy one of these to keep at the lake house!
ReplyDeleteLooks like a great notion to have! When I start to really quilt I will have to look into this!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the review!
I love your idea of doing product reviews (after REAL testing!) every Wednesday. This was a great review, Kelly. And I hadn't heard of it before, either! Blades are so dern expensive, this is really a great idea. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteIs it spanky? Heck, that beats the hand sharpener thingy.
ReplyDeleteThis will be a fun feature!
This product looks great...does it really sharpen the blades? I have bought other and they end up in the trash. As expensive as blade are it would certainly be worthwhile to have .
ReplyDeleteThank you for this review! I've been eyeing these and wondering.... I definitely want one now!
ReplyDeleteGreat product review. This is definetly on my wish list.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Kelly for this review! I hate spending so much of my hard earned money on new blades and I can go through a lot of them... This is on my "to buy" list as soon as we start selling the crop! Get me one packed up and ready! :)
ReplyDeleteI save old blades too. I have added this to my "want" list! Maybe it should be on my "need" list
ReplyDeleteHey...are you going to Knoxville Quilt Show
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful gadget that is - I will definitely consider one in my future. Judy C in NC
ReplyDeleteSo ready to click buy... but as long as you are reveiwing... Can nicked blades be sharpened too? You mentioned it... but didn't explain. Please tell... I might could use this tool too.
ReplyDeleteThat is WAY COOL. Like soooo many other gadgets, that is NOT one I'd heard of before...well, not this one exactly. I was a fool (you know, the fool and her money are soon parted? THAT fool) and bought the dinky one that Hancocks sells - even used the 40% coupon so it was affordable, but what a waste that was. Keep the receipt to return it? HAHAHA. no. Tried the carpet blades everyone raves about from Harbor Freight....in Driver's words, "well, you get what you pay for, so what'd you expect?" Well, I *expected* the darned things to CUT. Maybe the cut carpet, but they surely did not cut my cotton fabric!
ReplyDeleteI've passed up the bias tape makers, I've passed up the die cutters, I pass up all the nifty how-to books (yes, and sometimes struggle to figure it out on my own - otherwise known as re-inventing the wheel), and it's been a struggle, but I've even passed up the Beam 'n Read, but this is one gadget I will certainly consider saving up for. But Beth poses a good question - does it do anything for nicked blades? (not that *I* have any of those...HAHAHA - ROFLMBO!!)
Thank you, Kelly, for once again - edumacating us newbies! By the way - I've used the Wonder Cut ruler I purchased from you - LOVE it. Will send you pics & reasons why (MATH and the lack of it!!!!) when I can. :)
Sounds like a nifty gadget to put on my "want list"..but first is the Beam n Read light; saving pennies for it.
ReplyDeleteI've heard from others that have tested this and had great results. Only negative feedback seems to have a root cause experience with problems from very old cut up mats, that were contributing to the problem. To clarify, it seems this tool really does do a great job sharpening rotary blades. All feedback I've heard is positive. But I still appreciate and value your feedback very much.

Sounds like a good gadget Kellie....how much to post to Oz?
ReplyDeleteHugs Khris
Hope it works!
ReplyDeleteI am very leery of these things. I know it looks a bit more powerful than the little thing you buy in the craft store that you turn by hand.
ReplyDeleteDid the blade feel as sharp as a new blade when you went to cut fabric?
