I laugh or smile every day because these Flamingo's change position and different props are added depending on the weather. Here they are trying to stay warm by the fire. They had an umbrella over them when it was raining. There is even a "black sheep flamingo" isn't that just hysterical? Definitely my type of humor!
Isn't keeping order in the house with kids tough? If you have or had children you probably had times when you wanted to gather up every toy and paper airplane and toss it into the trash.
Back in Nov or Dec this phrase popped into my head: "Are we being good stewards of our belongs?" It was so easy for me to see all the stuff that belonged to the kids that needs to go and some old things that I didn't know what to do with....but that was as far as it went....UNTIL
I took a look at myself....what do I have that I'm not being a good steward of? What do I have that is holding up energy in my life? I've already gotten rid of all the excess clothing and shoes a year or so ago.
I didn't need to look to hard to find that I've been holding up tons of energy in stored fabric. Perfectly good, fun, and quality fabrics....and here they sit...and sit...and sit....like a dam to the flow of energy around me.
The co-workers have been busy playing in the little bit of snow we have had.

I'm quick to tell people, "What you own, owns you" and this stuff is owning me. The one day projects or fabrics I might need.......really? I already have favorites that I have not had time to get to....
How much time and energy was spent gathering all of this? Then folding it, organizing it.... Sure, there was the time I made things with these fabrics and I did use quiet a bit of what I bought....but there is always left overs and pieces I don't exactly love...if you know what I mean.
I feel energized by just going through and letting some of these things go...less for me to care for and what I have left are fabrics I really love and will be excited to work with. The co-workers have been busy playing in the little bit of snow we have had.
Here's a bit of proof it doesn't take much to have a good time and be happy :)
There are two giveaways that will be announced tomorrow....so I hope you've taken the time to leave comments for the Famore Cutlery Blog Hop and the book reviews I did earlier this week...just click here to leave a comment to win one of the books.
Smiles,
Kelly
That is a hoot....those flamingos....someone must have a time coming up with different things. I wonder if they realize the enjoyment others are getting through doing that?
ReplyDeleteYou co workers are nutzzzz but that is what being young is for.
You are right....that is all I can say....maybe it is time I get rid of things....thanks for the insight!
Hi Kelly, I hope you don't mind my post but when you need something is better to ask than not to. I'm going trough a hard time and I can't afford to buy fabrics at this time, so, if you have anything you don't really want I would be thrilled to have it.
ReplyDeleteLike minded when it comes to clearing out the stuff. I do my whole house on a yearly basis and simplify simplify simplify:>) Good motto!
ReplyDeleteThat is a funny setting, lol.
ReplyDeleteWe have no snow and I want it;)
Debbie
So ... do you have pics yet of the igloo they build with their snow blocks? And I have to heartily agree about the "what you own, owns you" thinking. Sheesh! I've been working on that steadily for the past couple of years and there's *still* room for stuff to go. :)
ReplyDeleteHi Kelly, I know what you mean about having fabric that you no longer love. I have a hard time getting rid of perfectly good fabric that may be dated and/or not my favorite. That's why I set a personnel challenge to use my 'less preferred' fabrics [as I kindly call them] on every other quilt this year to see what I can do. I'm currently working on my third challenge quilt.
ReplyDeleteAs someone who is unpacking lots of stuff after her move, I can say that it definitely OWNS me! LOL!
ReplyDeleteGot furniture and reliable internet now. Life is good!
You are so right about "things" damming up our energy!
ReplyDeleteThose flamingos are too cool. We have a family that have some of those full size people in their yard and they pose them differently every day. They are very creative.
Good post.
I need some flamingos or something like that to get me through the rest of the winter...what fun!
ReplyDeleteThat flamingo scene is just too fun! Good for you to purge your excess. Your no-longer-as-loved pieces will become someone else's newly-most-loved bargains.
ReplyDeleteThe flamingos are a hoot. My mom lives in Louisiana and claims she wasn't a true redneck till she got two pink flamingos to go in her front yard. About the fabric, you are so right. I started to go through mine but got side tracked maybe this is the time to finish unloading. Thanks for the reminder. And the kids look like they are having a blast in spite of the cold.
ReplyDeleteWell now I want some flamingoes! Love that idea. You're so right about your things owning you....good for you. And even though you didn't get much snow, you still got more than I did!
ReplyDeleteWhat silly flamingoes:) Love it! It was good to see you last week and I'm excited to be in the creating and blogging mood again:) Mom is doing great, check out her latest quilt on my blog! I bet that quilt top you got the other night looks awesome! Looking forard to Sunday:)
ReplyDeleteI laughed about those flamingos. I use to work with an RN who was a supervisor and he hated them. Then word got out, he woke one morning to discover his whole yard was covered with the things, lol. I wasn't party to this mischief, but I laughed right along with the gang. Yeah, I remember when my kids were young and it was logos and lite brite pegs all over. I can not tell you how many lite brite pegs were sucked up into the Kirby sweeper. My girls are in their early 30's now.....I miss it.
ReplyDeleteSusanne :)
The flamingos look like life is easy! I love them! We haven't had much snow either! 3 inches compared to 18 this time last year! Ugh... I love the snow! I know the feeling! Everyday there is something or everything laying around, but for some reason no one knows how in the world it got there!
ReplyDeleteI love the flamingos, I always wanted a whole flock, but I want them up in a tree in my backyard. I know the "too much stuff" feeling, right now my fabric is being sorted with a "use it or lose it" mentality. It seems to be working.
ReplyDeleteI have to tell you during Christmas break I 'cleaned' my kids room (10, and 11) and I put the back seat down in my Mini van and FILLED it with donations to the local salvation army. the worst part is it hardly made a dent in their toys!! Ofta!!
ReplyDeleteHeehee...Around here there are yards with fake deer or Canada geese - would love to see someone do a funny, creative thing like that!
ReplyDeleteOh, those were the days. When the vacuum made that certain sound and you knew you had sucked up some Lego pieces or people. Sigh. I hope I have some grandkids soon...
Since I'm originally from Fla, Seeing Flamingo's in yards is such a common site, but I have to say, I've never seen them quite like this! I love it.
ReplyDeleteAs far as cleaning...I gave up on that years ago!
I have always LOVED flamingoes! This group reminds me of when we lived in NC and we used to bird our neighbor all the time - we'd get flamingoes of different materials, sizes, shapes, all different kinds, and when the mood struck, we'd leave one in an inconspicuous place & wait for him to find it. We had so much fun, sometimes a month would go by before he'd even notice the new addition to his flock!
ReplyDeleteNow those flamingo people look like they would be interesting people to know. And one of my goals is to get rid of some fabric this year. My tastes have definitely changed and there are some fabrics in my stash that I will never use either for charity projects or backs of quilts. Then I need to tackle all the books that have multiplied faster than our bookshelves. Simplify, simplify.

ReplyDeleteWhat fun the flamingos must be! Would love to have something fun like that around here....boys looks like they are having a good time. =)
