Simple Choices by Abbey Lane Quilts Book Review and Giveaway

How about a quick and pretty easy quilt that you customize yourself?  The girls from Abbey Lane Quilts have made that so easy to do with their new book, Simple Choices.  There are 5 different block styles and they are combined with 5 different appliques and two trim options.  All you do is choose the block style you like best and then an applique (or combine appliques) to make your own fun quilt.

How about this fun stocking cap quilt....you could also alternate and put snowmen on the quilt too...it snowed here finally so that's all I can think about.
The Pinwheel Block is a perfect anytime quilt.  Simple Choices offers full size applique templates for  a bird, bright flower, haunted house, the stocking caps and the circles.  One book, 25 different quilt options, and that doesn't include any of the options you can insert with other appliques you may already have and love.  Talk about endless recipes to cook up some fun quilts...they're all here inside Simple Choices.  There are cutting and sewing instructions with lots of diagrams as well....you can't go wrong!

I think this is a charming book and I'd love to share an autographed copy with an IHAN blog follower compliments of Abbey Lane Quilts.  If you would like an opportunity to enter the drawing just leave a comment on this post before Wednesday, February 15th.

Switching topics here....

We've been invaded by tiny warriors here at IHAN.
Check out all these little figures....they are just too funny.

If you look closely you can see in front of all these warriors the boys have set up a tiny cannon...yep...they are going to set off the tiny cannon and knock down all these little guys they've set up.  It has to be testosterone that causes this sort of play....everything is a battle and there are always some sort of little figures being knocked over....boy play.
Check out his little Lego guy....I cracked up when I saw him....he is sort of frail looking....check out his back....
What is sticking out this guys backside? I honestly don't know....but it is definitely interesting!!!

It snowed here last evening so the boys have been making their own personal snow hill.
Most folks shovel their sidewalks and driveways....not us....we actually shovel the grass too.  There isn't enough snow to make a big snow hill so we shoveled it from all over the yard....this doesn't feel like "real" winter.
As I drove home today I had to check out what the Flamingos were up to....thought you might want to know how they are too.......
I didn't know Flamingos made igloos....but apparently they do :)

Smiles,
Kelly

  5. Love the book, and the LEGO guy. We've finally got snow here, too - but my Munchkin is sick so can't get out in it... so frustrating. Knowing our track record, by the time he's recovered, it will be melted.

  24. ahh, my kind of book! makes it so much easier to pick and choose how and what you want to do with your quilts. better to plan ahead that change your mind midstream.
the litltle stob on the back of the little 'bot warrior is a 'mover and shaker.' little boys can really make those things move like monsters. at least that's what they called them back in the day. [my boys now have grown kids of their own]

  52. Haven't commented in a while even though I always read your blogs. It keeps me up with what is going on with you and your crazy household :) Kidding aside, I'd love to have the book you are giving away. I enjoy applique and the quilts above are so nice. I do need to put aside time to sew soon. Seems like paper has taken over the creative venues as of late. Business is moving along slow but steady. Making tons of cards. Check me out on Pintrest. I'll send you a invite. I can't seem to get my photos uploaded to my web page. TA TA Auntie L

  56. Sure sounds like a winner of a giveaway to me. there is always room on my shelf for another quilting book. Happened to look back on some of your previous posts and the string quilt pics are fabulous. I have made 2-3 in the past and they are always fun and colorful. I love scrappy quilts and this one fits the bill. I also saw the post of the little cute hats for the children who are under going chemo. What a sweet idea. I made some crocheted chemo caps for a local cancer center about a year ago last Oct-Nov and 2 months later my husband was diagnosed with myeloma. No telling where life is gonna lead you next. Thanks for sharing and the opportunity to be a part of the giveaway.

  64. No snow - just lots of brrr weather - 17 degrees and hard freeze killing our plants - and this is Florida! I like the idea of having a simple, pretty quilt pattern with lots of options. Please put my name in the hat too.
Happy V-Day. Did your boys make any Valentine's - maybe warrior ones?

  65. Love the flamingos in the snow. Here in NY we haven't had enough snow this winter to make a small lump never mind a snow hill.

  66. Little boys are so interesting to me...in the way they think, play, dress, eat, talk, everything! The 9-10 yr. old age range is my absolute favorite because they still don't like girls and they are still not too big to give you a hug (most of the time) They do everything at the speed of light and 200% participation. I loved teaching 3rd grade for those very reasons. BTW, your protable ironing station is genius!
    Blessings
