Welcome to the Quick & Easy Hexie Quilts Blog Hop :)
You may be thinking....quick and easy....where have I heard that before? It is true, I'm here to tell you.....it is possible to turn a circle into a hexagon and you won't have to use a paper template. How do I know?
I have recently reviewed a copy of Dr. Peggy Rhodes and Julia Wood's new book, Quick & Easy Hexie Quilts and I've made my own hexagons (shown above on top of the book). These hexies are much larger than the hexagons I've been making for the past 8 years. Mine are approximately 3/4" across and I've been using paper to stabilize my work. I have to say, I really have enjoyed making the larger hexagons without paper using Dr. Rhodes and Julia Wood's method.
The "Florabunda Table Topper" is one of my favorite patterns from Quick & Easy Hexie Quilts. Will ya just look at all those beautiful colors......they are beautiful! Light, dark, print, dots, stripe, solid or floral....all of them make incredibly beautiful Hexie Quilts.
Would you like to make Quick and Easy Hexies too? For your chance to win your very own copy of Quick and Easy Hexie Quilts please leave a comment on this post telling me what you love about hexagons.
The winner from the IHAN blog will also receive 50 pre-cut circles.....oh just think of the fun you will have!
There are several chances to win a copy of Quick & Easy Hexie Quilts. Visit each of the blogs below and leave a comment to increase your chances of winning. One winner from each blog will be chosen on June 10th, 2013 to receive a copy of Quick & Easy Hexie Quilts. I love hexies because they remind me of my grandmother. One of my dearest possessions is a Grandmother's Flower Garden quilt she made. One day I hope to make a similar quilt. Big hexies would be a good start. :)

ReplyDeleteI've not made any hexie projects in a long time. The circle method intrigues me so I would love to learn about this technique.
ReplyDeleteI love hexies, first because they make for beautiful quilts, but the handwork is also very calming and portable. I am still fairly new at making them, so if there is a technique that simplify the process and keep the beauty of the art, I am all for it.
ReplyDeleteI am in a hexie group and I have been doing using the paper hexie's. This sounds interesting. A new technique to add to my repetoire.
ReplyDeleteI would love to learn a new technique for hexies! Thanks for the chance to win the book.
ReplyDeleteI love making hexies! They are so versatile in that you can change the up the pattern simply by moving your color choices around...I cannot imagine an easier way to make them than I do now with paper pieces...thank you for such a wonderful giveaway.
ReplyDeleteHexies remind me of my great grandmother Temperance Hanmer
ReplyDeleteI have always loved hexies. I wanted to make a quilt made of hexagons, so I started quilting. Love the book, thanks for the chance to win one.

ReplyDeleteI'd love a chance to win this book!
ReplyDeleteI love hexies because they are so portable. I do them while watching TV and on vacation.

ReplyDeletePam
quick and easy! who isn't for that these days. that way we can make more quilts. I am working on a hexagon quilt again which I just posted. I like working on them because it is a quilt I can take on the go or while I am watching TV. thanks for the giveaway.
ReplyDeleteI love hexies because it is so soothing to do the handwork involved:)
ReplyDeleteI hate to admit this... but I have never made hexies! I hear they are fun and addictive, so I guess one of these days I should take the plunge (do I need to warn my family? You know... in case supper isn't made, dishes aren't washed... lol)
ReplyDeleteI LOVE hexies, I like the fact that I can work on them and not disturb anyone in the family like I do if I am on a sewing machine.
ReplyDeleteHi! I have not worked with hexies, yet, but I think they are adorable and I think winning this book would be the perfect way for me to get started! Thank you for the chance to win!
ReplyDeleteI kinda love everything about hexies. The hexie shape. The reminder of my Aunts and Grandmas that are now gone, but were quilters before me. The fact that I taught my DD and she loves them too.
ReplyDeleteIm intrigued! so cool
ReplyDeleteVery interesting hexies made with no paper pieces.

I love the way hexies look. Thanks for the chance to win a copy of the book, it looks great.
ReplyDeleteI love the way they are take and go and you can work on them anywhere. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteI make hexes, little ones and big ones. I would really like to own this book, and find out how to make them out of circles. I have circles cut for yo-yos, yep I do them, too. Thanks for your giveaway.
ReplyDeleteI like making hexies too. I would like to try this new technique. Thanks for the chance to win, and for the circles to get the winner started right away!
ReplyDeleteWow! I would really love to win a copy of this book! All my friends have jumped on the hexie train but so far I have been hesitant to start. This book might be just the ticket for me to ride :*)
ReplyDeleteI think what I love most about hexies is how every single one is different than anyone else's because of the chance to fussy cut the hexies. Even taking the same exact quilt pattern and making it again for yourself you will make it totally different hexie by hexie even when using the same fabrics as it just really depends on where each piece is cut.
ReplyDeleteI love hexagons as they a fun hand sew project!
ReplyDeleteAm intrigued - a hexie from a circle and with no papers. This is a must book and would love to win a copy.
ReplyDeleteTerry
I love them because they look old-fashioned...like things my memere uses to make. There was nothing that lady couldn't make!
ReplyDeleteI have yet to make any hexies but this book would definitely get me started, especially since my favorite thing about them is that I could easily take along to work on when I am riding in a car.
ReplyDeleteWhat's not to like? First, I'm intrigued by the geometry (mathematician here), then the versatility. One can use them to embellish a project or embellish the hexie itself. Fun!!
ReplyDeleteI love hexies because they are portable and so I take them everywhere. I am currently working on a batik table topper using hexies. Thank you for the opportunity to win this new book.
ReplyDeleteI recently purchased a pattern from Karen Griska with the Selvage Blog for a circle quilt. All those circles would definitely make the beginning of a beautiful quilt. Thanks again.
I have seena copy of the book, and it it a great techinque, especially for large hexies.
ReplyDeleteAs a math major, I love the geometry of hexagons! :)
ReplyDeleteI haven't done any hexies yet been wanting to try some but have too many other things on the go. I love that they are portable and love some of the quilts I have seen. Plus handwork is so relaxing. Would love to win this book.

0 - I love nothing about Hexies, but I'm willing to learn. LOL
ReplyDeleteThey are so versatile. You can paint pictures with them. Thanks for the chance to win.
ReplyDeleteThis looks like such a fun book! My favorite thing about hexies (aside from them being SO cute) is that they are portable and easy to take along to work on.
ReplyDeleteI love the uniformity and flexibility of hexies. Also, you can choose to 'chain' them together or applique them. Great possibilities.
ReplyDeleteI do like hexies, and would love to have the time to practice machine piecing them so they'd go so much easier!
ReplyDeleteI love hexies. I would love to add this book to my collection!
ReplyDeleteLove this technique. Pick me!! Would love to have a copy.
ReplyDeleteWithout a doubt, there is a lot to like about hexies. Ease, no machine required, portable in a minimalist way, variety of design choices, and the "spin-off" shapes that will work with the hexagon shape.
ReplyDeleteThanks for a chance to win!
ReplyDeleteI would love to learn this new technique. I have a "Forever" Grandmothers Garden quilt top that I bought at a garage sale a few years ago. But, it was really ugly and poorly put together, so I took it apart and am working on putting it back together.
ReplyDeleteI wasn't fond of hexagons before - too much fussing with paper or plastic templates - but this new method could change my mind.
ReplyDeleteI am a scrap-a-holic and hexies are perfect for scraps. They make for great hand sewing while watching tv. Thanks for the chance to win!
ReplyDeleteI love that they are so handy to take everywhere with me. And I can use my scraps and make something wonderful.
ReplyDeleteThings that I love about hexies: self-contained, hand sewn, quilt piece that can be piled up and eventually be made into a lovely quilt. That's why I must win a copy of the book, AND the circle die, and a getting started to-go kit with that special IHAN touch. Kelly, Thanks for the chance to win so can get my life-time project done! Seriously, I have stage terminal cancer so winning this prize would really help me make headway on my bucket list project. My late grandmother hand made a hexie quilt, so I ought to be able to make one too!
ReplyDeletei am so curious about their method, love making hexies, hate the paper lol. i would probably make a table topper
ReplyDeleteI think hexies look really neat, it doesn't matter what is being made with them, I just like them lol!
