Full Stop!

Think as in engines and forward movement.

Yep that's me!

Started last week with some discomfort… and finally got to the point on Sunday of some pain and by Wednesday… enough to seek medical intervention.

After several hours and  good old fashioned x-rays a diagnosis.

My poor thumb is experiencing tendonitis combined with arthritis (bone spurs brace-picand calcifications too). A steroid shot for the inflammation and a brace for the next 7-10 days and then see about further treatment of if it is just a management issue.

So the hard work for me is to ignore all the things calling my name with deadlines, needs doing or even the THINGS I want to do and rest my hand.

So to combat the hours of boredom I have broken out a jigsaw puzzle.

How do you cope with situations that require you to not only change the forward motion plans or the order of Full Stop!!!

  1. OUCH! I have tendonitis in one wrist, and have to come to a sudden stop when it starts tingling. Never fun, and always when I'm in a rush to get something done. I just saw this on Pinterest the other day http://www.hotcoldcomfort.com/collections/home/products/thumb-wrap-wrist-heat-wraps-hot-cold-packs-for-thumb-wrist-hand I thought it might come in handy one day. Maybe it will help you, after your brace comes off.

    1. Cheryl, That looks like it might help!!!! I am icing now.... I never feel tingling. It is generally swelling that I notice... but didn't know what was causing it until the pain... came. Now I know.

I will check out the link!

  2. OUCH! Just got rid of bone spurs and tendinitis and arthritis in my shoulder, thank you very much! Working on regaining mobility now. Thankfully, though, it never brought me to a full stop (cuz I still had use of my other arm), but I know just how much pain you're experiencing now. Must say, though, it was challenging....getting used to pulling up pants with 1 hand, buckling seat belts backwards, etc. Got hubby to do all my reaching & lifting, so that was helpful. Got him to do a lot of the cooking and cleaning too.

Sending you lots of hugs and wishes for a speedy recovery!!

    1. Thanks KC.... all the hugs and wishes are needed just to keep my patience in check.

Not totally bored yet but may need a new puzzle today!

  3. That is not fun, hope it heals on it's own with a little rest. I cannot sit still that long, so most of my injuries are here to stay, lol.

    1. Thanks Debbie, I hope it heals too. There are so many things we do with our hands!!!

I am having a problem with sitting still too.

    1. Thanks Amy! I hope I get better soon too. While I like jigsaw puzzles... I would much rather play with fabric.

Speedy recovery to you! I had the same thing in my left hand, years later I have it in my right one as well! (It's not due to sewing though!!!)

    1. Claudia! Lucky you. There doesn't seem to be enough on the tube... to binge through and I have to have something in my hands or it becomes the 'nap' box.

For some reason... your comment did not come to my 'inbox', but I found you via your blogger page.

      Thanks for the comment!

  6. I can relate. I fell in November and sprained thumb turned into tendinitis. All my Christmas projects are waiting for next year. Try a massage. It hurts like anything, but gets to the root of the problem.

    1. Thanks for your comment. I know muscle stuff takes time and careful attention. I have some other connective tissue issues.... and I don't like them any more than this!!!

I will try massage... as soon as the arthritis settles and I can bear to have the joint handled.

I hope you get your Christmas list completed sooner than later!
