Before I get into her latest book, Stack The Deck Revisited, I just want to take a minute to show you some of her work that I also love:
I know these have absolutely nothing to do with Stack The Deck Revisited, but I figured if you are anything like me you might want to see some of the author's work and other creations along the way.)
For some reason the photos of Karla's book don't look as bright on the Internet as it does in my hands so I took my own photo of it for you to see.
Karla has updated her patterns from Stack the Deck, her first book. I like Karla's style of writing and the photos that accompany the patterns clearly explain the process she is following to complete the quilts successfully. Karla also goes into a discussion about fabric choices, finishing your quilt and variations on block designs.
I have really enjoyed reading Stack The Deck Revisited and I'm going to hate to see it leave however, I know it will be equally enjoyed by one lucky IHAN blog reader! I have the original Stack The Deck book! Pure love! I am curious to know what the differences are between this old one and the revisited one.

As far as Creative Grids rulers, that is all I use!

I have never made any of Karla's patterns or used Creative Grids rulers. The pattern that really intrigues me is the cover pattern. Looks so complicated, but I'm sure Karla would make it easy!

ReplyDeleteMy Creative Grids 8" 45 degree Triangle ruler is one of the first rulers I bought after my basic rectangle ruler and it is so versatile. I use it all the time.

ReplyDeleteI love the randomness of that front cover quilt. It looks like somebody chopped up fabric and made a quilt. Very different and I would love a chance to make it bright rainbow colors.
ReplyDeleteNever made a pattern of Karla's nor used her rulers. I was very intrigued by the "Going Green" quilt you showed. I got really intrigued when I followed Rhonda P.'s comment to the quilt she made. I loved Rhonda's quilt!

There are so many different techniques out there, I'm always learning something new. I've heard of Stack the Deck, but havent' tried it yet. Maybe winning woudl make me try something out of my comfort level.

ReplyDeleteI have the earlier book, but haven't made anything from it yet (as is the case with most of the books I own!), and I think I may have one creative grids ruler upstairs...a 60 degree. I bought it recently to make the hexagon quilts from Sizzlin' Sixties by Heather Mulder Peterson, and it has worked just fine.

Creative Grids rulers are the best in the business in my mind. I recommend them when I teach my accuracy classes...

And it's one of my favorite quilts -- all animal prints and blacks and neutrals. I haven't seen her rulers -- might have to look for those. I'd love to have her new book. ReplyDeleteI've never tried one of these quilts, but the idea of "shuffling" stacks of cut fabric to create new combinations is really interesting. I saw on her site, one quilt called Funky Curvy Rail; that looks intriguing, too. Those rulers look like cool tools!

ReplyDeleteI have never used the rulers or made a quilt from her stack the deck methods, but I've seen many quilts made by women in one of by sewing groups and have loved the simplicity of the complicated looking pattern. That simplicity is what intrigues me about the new book. The cover quilt looks complicated but she must have simplified it in her stack the deck way.
