More photos from PA. What can I say...I take hundreds of photos and I've spared you over 200 of the other's I've taken.
Even thought I only had 24 hours with my dear friend Mary Jane...I was very grateful for those 24 hours. It doesn't seem to matter much what we do....we just like causing trouble and being together. Do you have friends like that?
You may remember an earlier post, A Master At Work. If you don't you can click on the link and review those pictures. I swear Mary Jane is an Applique Master. I got goose bumps when I saw this quilt finished. Many of my PA friends have done a Baltimore Album over the last year....and they are just amazing stitchers.
I took close up photos of many of the blocks...hopefully you can see the quilting and the applique...isn't this amazing? The center is her own design...I can't even begin to imagine cutting and stitching that many leaves and berries and having them all look like they are where they belong.

Mary Jane designed the outside and the corners as well.
Of course it is hand quilted!!
Look how amazing her stitches are....I know she will cringe when she reads what I've written....but it is true...she is a Master in my mind so I'm sticking to my "Applique and Hand Quilting Master" title I've given her :)
This is Mary Jane....my dear friend...a woman I respect and truly admire....I'm fortunate to call her my friend.
I numbered the blocks because I'm curious to know which one is your favorite and which block do you think is my favorite? Go ahead....take a guess...leave a comment.....there just might be a little prize involved :)
Smiles,
Kelly
My favorite is nine, your is four!?
ReplyDeleteShe is amazing - thank you for sharing this Kelly!
My fav is 5 (I'm a sucker for anything reminiscent of Celtic knotwork) but I think yours is 9 (the color play and intricacy of design). Forget American Jane, we've got Mary Jane!! I laughed when I read " imagine cutting and stitching that many leaves and berries and having them all look like they are where they belong" because that was exactly what I was thinking/wondering--look at how perfect the spacing on those leaves is! I can't believe it's hand-quilted, too! What a priceless piece!
ReplyDeleteYour favorite block? #9
ReplyDeleteMy favorite block? #1
WOW! Amazing. Awesome.
My favorite is 6. Yours, too?
ReplyDeleteWow. Wow wow wow wow. You're right Kelly, she is amazing! I can't believe you're asking us to pick a favorite. I was going to say number one, because it's beautiful and because she designed it, but then I scrolled down [and down] and I could easily pick them all! I think I'll stick with number one. Your favorite? Hmmmm...number 8?
ReplyDeleteWow, it's hard to pick a favorite. I think #1 is my favorite - the center medallion. She did a wonderful job of designing and sewing it!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite is that center block #1...your's???? #1...the center block!!! I also love #9... Oh heck, the truth is that they are all a favorite and you are CORRECT! She is a MASTER APPLIQUER! ... The dictionary doesn't like that word...she is a MASTER ARTIST! Wow...her quilts are wonderful...
ReplyDeletehugz
I really like 1 and 6...if I knew you a little better I would surely pick yours, but I'm not sure though the center block is truly amazing. Wonderful applique here!
ReplyDeleteThis quilt is a heirloom! So beautiful, I love the colours, layout and quilting.
ReplyDeleteWOW! This is a beautiful quilt! I love the cornocupia block # 8 (but I love them all)... and I think your favorite may be block # 3... although I highly suspect that you had a hard time in deciding on just one as well!
ReplyDeleteOMG ..I..I..I can't speak ... what an absolutely beautiful quilt - oh I wish I could make some thing like that. My favourite block is 9 though how can you pick just one!! I think number 9 may be your favourite too.

Awesome talent and beautiful work!! I love #5 and I think yours is #2.
ReplyDelete9 and 9... and beyond that I am speechless. Just GORGEOUS!!!
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh! She is the master. She is more than the master. I am impressed beyond words! It's almost impossible to pick a fav - but I am with you on the center. Really????? How in the world can those leaves and berries be so perfect? Hmmm...is your favorite #9? They are all AMAZING! Thanks so much for sharing.
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous quilt! My favorite would have to be #8. For some reason it speaks to me. I'm guessing that yours is #9. Thanks for the great pictures & maybe this will inspire me to finish one of my appliquƩ quilts!
ReplyDeleteMy fAvorite is #8' the bird. Amazing quilt.
ReplyDeleteI am going to guess I love both #5 and #7.. well all of them, but those two the best, but I'll take #5 and guess that #7 is your favorite.
ReplyDeleteI will guess 8 :)
ReplyDeleteMine = No 6 - the scottish bluebell
ReplyDeleteYours - No 1 - the central hub of everything (and isn't it amazing!)

The blocks are all so beautiful but my favorite is Block # 6 and this is probably that I am not a big fan of red.

ReplyDeleteI like the bird #8 and I think that's your favorite too. I'm really in awe of her work. I've tried recently to do detailed appliquƩ and failed horribly. I wish I could take a class because it is so beautiful.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful quilt. My favorite is 6, and yours would probably be the center section. Judy s.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite block is #1 and I think your's might be #9,just a guess since I don't know you that well yet. What a beautiful quilt and all of that work, amazing.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry, I cant pick just one. They're all beautiful, but, in this order, my top three: 7, 5, 1.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite is #6
ReplyDeleteHard to choose with such Master work! I like #7 best, such a great red with that fleur de lis foursome. I'm going to guess you like #1 the best.
ReplyDeleteI like block number 2, something about it, speaks to me. Simple but elegant and the colors are gorgeous together.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun trip and a great place to take the family, so everyone can have fun.
Debbie
I love all the blocks, but, if I have to narrow it down, I pick block 1 because of the spring colored flowers in the basket. I hand quilt, and the quilting is great. I have a great, wonderful friend (of 33 years) but she doesn't quilt. We only get to see each other when I travel to Texas. My BFF since the day we met.
ReplyDeletePick a favorite? You're kidding, right? Balt. quilts are among the most awesome things out there.
ReplyDeleteOMG - I can't choose just one for a fave!!! But I guess if I had to, it would be #1 or #9. I think yours is #1 or #8..dunno why, just think so.
ReplyDeleteNone of my friends even know how much goes into a quilt, much less a hand-quilted one, they just know when they can't find me, look for the closest sewing machine or fabric shop. This is truly spectacular, and I'm glad you've got such a great friend!!
Blogger hates me after an update I did & it won't allow me to post with Google anymore...sooo, just in case you feel like talkin' - email is kcallander989[at]gmail[dot]com...but no need if'n you're busy!
oh my gravy! what a beautiful quilt! I absolutely *love* block #1 in many ways -- mostly becuase it is her design and I know the amount of work it took to get it right. Sooooo beautiful!
ReplyDeleteYep, she's definitely an Applique Master and I know how much she means to you! Hugs, dear!
I think I like #1 the best because of all the perfect little berries and leaves. Mary Jane really is an applique master! The quilt is really beautiful.
ReplyDeletewow that is a gorgeous quilt. and I think master suits it well. not many hand quilt anymore so it is nice to see.
ReplyDeleteMy fav has to be 7. AMAZING!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite block is #9 and I'm guessing that it could be your favorite block, too.
