More photos from PA. What can I say...I take hundreds of photos and I've spared you over 200 of the other's I've taken.
Even thought I only had 24 hours with my dear friend Mary Jane...I was very grateful for those 24 hours. It doesn't seem to matter much what we do....we just like causing trouble and being together. Do you have friends like that?
You may remember an earlier post, A Master At Work. If you don't you can click on the link and review those pictures. I swear Mary Jane is an Applique Master. I got goose bumps when I saw this quilt finished. Many of my PA friends have done a Baltimore Album over the last year....and they are just amazing stitchers.
I took close up photos of many of the blocks...hopefully you can see the quilting and the applique...isn't this amazing? The center is her own design...I can't even begin to imagine cutting and stitching that many leaves and berries and having them all look like they are where they belong.

Mary Jane designed the outside and the corners as well.
Of course it is hand quilted!!
Look how amazing her stitches are....I know she will cringe when she reads what I've written....but it is true...she is a Master in my mind so I'm sticking to my "Applique and Hand Quilting Master" title I've given her :)
This is Mary Jane....my dear friend...a woman I respect and truly admire....I'm fortunate to call her my friend.
I numbered the blocks because I'm curious to know which one is your favorite and which block do you think is my favorite? Go ahead....take a guess...leave a comment.....there just might be a little prize involved :)

My fav is 5 (I'm a sucker for anything reminiscent of Celtic knotwork) but I think yours is 9 (the color play and intricacy of design). Forget American Jane, we've got Mary Jane!! I laughed when I read " imagine cutting and stitching that many leaves and berries and having them all look like they are where they belong" because that was exactly what I was thinking/wondering--look at how perfect the spacing on those leaves is! I can't believe it's hand-quilted, too! What a priceless piece!

I was going to say number one, because it's beautiful and because she designed it, but then I scrolled down [and down] and I could easily pick them all! I think I'll stick with number one. Your favorite? Hmmmm...number 8?
ReplyDeleteWow, it's hard to pick a favorite. I think #1 is my favorite - the center medallion. She did a wonderful job of designing and sewing it!

She is a MASTER APPLIQUER! ... The dictionary doesn't like that word...she is a MASTER ARTIST! Wow...her quilts are wonderful...

I really like 1 and 6...if I knew you a little better I would surely pick yours, but I'm not sure though the center block is truly amazing. Wonderful applique here!

ReplyDeleteWOW! This is a beautiful quilt! I love the cornocupia block # 8 (but I love them all)... and I think your favorite may be block # 3... although I highly suspect that you had a hard time in deciding on just one as well!

The blocks are all so beautiful but my favorite is Block # 6 and this is probably that I am not a big fan of red.

I love all the blocks, but, if I have to narrow it down, I pick block 1 because of the spring colored flowers in the basket. I hand quilt, and the quilting is great. I have a great, wonderful friend (of 33 years) but she doesn't quilt. We only get to see each other when I travel to Texas. My BFF since the day we met.

ReplyDeleteOMG - I can't choose just one for a fave!!! But I guess if I had to, it would be #1 or #9. I think yours is #1 or #8..dunno why, just think so.
ReplyDeleteNone of my friends even know how much goes into a quilt, much less a hand-quilted one, they just know when they can't find me, look for the closest sewing machine or fabric shop. This is truly spectacular, and I'm glad you've got such a great friend!!

oh my gravy! what a beautiful quilt! I absolutely *love* block #1 in many ways -- mostly becuase it is her design and I know the amount of work it took to get it right. Sooooo beautiful!

I think I like #1 the best because of all the perfect little berries and leaves. Mary Jane really is an applique master! The quilt is really beautiful.
