Jen Eskridge, Reanna Lily Designs, has written this wonderful book, "DEPLOY That Fabric" and you will have a chance to win not only her book but also a Camo-Quilt Eco Messenger Bag right here at the IHAN blog :)
Jen is the mother of three beautiful children and her husband, Rob, was in the US Air Force for 10 years and currently he is on active duty in the KS Air National Guard.
Jen says her main purpose in writing this book is to honor the service members who are fighting for our freedoms both at home and abroad. She is also into up-cycling, using and remembering the men and women who have served in the US Military.
What a wonderful way to remember and honor our service personnel....don't you think? I love the quilt pictured above and the neat purse as well. Not only are there these projects...but there are lots more..... a total of 23 projects including totes, quilts, Christmas decor, baby items, and fashion accessories.
"DEPLOY That Fabric," has been written very well...in my opinion!! Jen shows you how to deconstruct a uniform into flat pieces of fabric, how to choose other fabrics that coordinate with the military uniforms, lots of sewing tips too. She does make a point to say that you better ask first, before you sneak into a closet and get an old uniform...excellent advise! Can you imagine sneaking into the closet of a trained Military person? You could get yourself into a heap of trouble...yikes!
There are great photos and diagrams with clear instructions for making each of the projects. You know me....when I say that.....it is a big deal...because I can hardly follow written directions! I was so inspired I put together these fabrics below:
As usual, I didn't get time to finish the Grocery Tote, a project from "DEPLOY That Fabric." I'm used to doing my projects in several different sewing sessions :)
Would you like to win a copy of "DEPLOY That Fabric" and a Camo Quilt -Eco Messenger Bag? You must be a blog follower and leave a comment on this blog post telling us why you want to win these great prizes. (USA ONLY for physical book, international winners can receive an eBook.) In order to give everyone an opportunity to win I'll choose a winner on Oct. 15, 2011.
I posted all of the other blogs on the tour here...or you can check out Stash Books blog.

Well I think the book looks quite interesting. Is that reason enough for wanting to win? I am always up for some upcycling too. Thanks for sharing ... btw, it is great to have you back but I am glad you took a much needed break.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the review. I would love to win it as I have two uniforms from my grandfather and fatherinlaw and would love to upcycle into "something". Thanks ! (i am a follower!)
ReplyDeleteI am a follower, I was in the Navy myself years and years ago where I met my husband who was in the Navy.. he retired from the service, and now our DS is in the Navy too. It would be so fantastic to be able to make some gifts from our old uniforms (mine will certainly never fit again LOL).
ReplyDeleteI am a follower. My Daughter was in the Army and she saved her uniforms for me because she knew I would like to make a quilt from them. I would love to make that cute bag for her friends that are still serving.
ReplyDeleteI've been debating on purchasing this book. And I admit that it was the cover quilt that has me intrigued. I love the colors.
ReplyDeleteI love how the title honors our servicemembers. We can't thank them enough!
That tote is adorable, btw.
My husband is currently serving his 29th year in the Navy. Quilting has been a big part of our Navy lives as we travel to new locations and meet new friends. These projects could be great conversation starters!
ReplyDeleteI'm always looking for fun projects to make!
ReplyDelete(by the way, you need to insert the word NOT in "There are only two projects in this book")

ReplyDeleteThis book would be good for any repurposed uniform - and I have some sources that might be open to donating one to me to use. I like repurposing and today visited the pic-n-save (a.k.a. dump, but my mother vetoed bringing one thing home because she didn't want to wait for me to shop).
Thanks for the chance.
I am a follower. If I win I would give this book to my daughter whose husband is in the Army Marksmanship Unit. She is just beginning to sew and this would give her new ideas and projects to make. Thanks for the giveaway.
ReplyDeleteI read about this book a few weeks a go and absolutely fell in love. I want to win this book to make some things for my kids and friends and would love to donate items to a local private-school auction. Pleeeeeease pick me.
ReplyDeleteI'm a follower and love to win new things to sew with.
ReplyDeleteHow cool is this?! Bravo to the men and women of all nations serving to make our world a safer place, they deserve some of these fabulous gifts.
ReplyDeleteUp-cycling/recycling or the metamorphosis of several things into one... is like the pairing of old notes to make a new melody, Fabulous!
This looks like a great pattern book! I'm always looking for new projects for repurposing. I'm a follower! Thanks for a chance to win! :)
ReplyDeleteAs the daughter of a fighter pilot who served in WWII and Korea, the partner of a VietNam vet (Navy), and the sister of a brand-new Army private, this book would mean a lot to me. Thank you for your giveaway and for your post--the VFW MIA table photo spoke volumes.

Thanks for hosting this blog hop giveaway.
I am a proud army wife for the last 16 years. I have been making things out of my husbands uniform that entire time. I am always looking for more great ideas of things I can make. I even bake pies for the single soldiers so they will give me their old uniforms so I can use them to make thing.
ReplyDeleteI think this book would have some fabulous ideas for projects I could make for my baby bro in the Air Force!
ReplyDeleteWould love to win a copy of this book. I have lots of veterans in my family - Dad, husband & 3 brothers-in-law. And a nephew currently deployed in the Middle East. I'm a follower. Thanks for the giveaway.
ReplyDeleteLove fabric, quilt books, always on the lookout for interesting ideas and mixes. Am grateful to our servicepeople for all they do.
ReplyDeleteI would love to win this, but can't figure out how to follow. My son and his friends would gladly give me their old uniforms that I mend over and over...LOL! At some point, only the good fabric is left.~
ReplyDeleteThank you for the chance.

I am a follower. I'd love this book. I sew for the local Quilts of Valor chapter. It's also fun to 're-use' items.
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of re-using uniforms and I know the fabric is strong...has to be! Thanks for the chance.
ReplyDeleteI live in a Military training area, hubby is retired USAF and we are on base all the time. I think it would be great to show my support to those who proudly wear the uniform, with my own camo
ReplyDeleteI would love to win so that I can make some projects with my nephew's "slightly warn" fatigues. He is still active in the Army with EOD.
ReplyDeleteHaving had a dad, husband, brother-in-law and nephew who have all served, I would love to make something to honor them.
ReplyDeleteI'm a follower and I was in the Navy and so was my other half. Between the 2 of us we have 51 years service….. and lots of old uniforms. I have used some in bags and passport covers…. they are fire retardant too!!!!
ReplyDeleteI have a son in the Army. I make gifts to add to care packages that are sent to our troops. I would love some new ideas for them.
ReplyDeleteWell having my Dad serve in the Air Force for over 20 years and now my own son serving in the Marine Corps, I have some uniforms I've been hanging onto. Now I know why! I was waiting for this book to come out. So glad that there is a section on how to break down the uniforms. Like you said, what a better way to honor our servicemen and family members than to use their uniforms to make something meaningful and that we love.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the giveaway and a chance to win.
