See what talking about one of my favorite subjects does to me? I get all zippity-clip-it and my body starts dancin' ....oh there I go again...someone smack me....OUCH....not that hard!!!
Just look how beautiful the blade is....and baby oh baby it is sharp.
Remember my pretty Prairie Point....well....I've decided she is going to meet her demise.
I tucked the end of the seam ripper parallel to the fabric just inside the fold where the fabrics are joined.
I now pronounce those two pieces of fabric officially separated....just like that. See...no blood :)
Many of you know I've started doing some machine embroidery. I made this apron for my youngest co-worker for Christmas. The problem was....I walked away and didn't see that the bobbin thread had come to the top and I had an entire sentence straight across the design that was not so pretty. If you have ever done any ME you know that there is some crazy something that happens to the thread once stitched....it hangs on for dear life....no matter what. Being the patient person I am (not) I sat and used my Famore Seam Rip to remove every last thread....and yes I also used their Micro Tip Tweezers (SewCalGal will review those on Friday) to pull out any tiny threads that would just not let go. When I showed my tear out job to my girlfriend, Diane (years and years of ME experience) she was impressed and said she had not seen a tear out job that looked that nice. Keep in mind, I have not washed the apron yet....I'm thinking that after it is washed it will look a whole lot better.
The Famore Seam Ripper comes with 3 blades....yes I said 3...and I've been using my seam rip for 3 years and still have one blade left to open :) Oh yeah...it comes with a safety cap too.

You turn the tip around and screw it back into the handle and you have a beautiful Famore Stiletto for your sewing needs :)
Sewing needs? If you don't have a Stiletto you may wonder what you do with one....and I will tell you....there are lots of things I use my Geppetto for.....
I also use Gheppeto for pulling out a few threads when I don't want to cut the threads. You can see in this photo....I was able to slip Gepehetto under a thread and pull out just one thread.

Believe it or not, I received this beautiful wall hanging as a Christmas gift from dear blogging friend. Not only was I totally and completely blown away by such an amazing gift of love....but it also reminded me of another dear blogging friend Micki, from Ireland. Many of you will remember her blog, Irish Muses. The blogging world has brought so many wonderful and loving people into my life....so when you are out hopping around....remember .... quilts provide warmth....and so do wonderful friends you will meet in your blogging journey....it's not about the prizes you will win....(although they are great) it is about the amazing and wonderful people behind the products and quilts you see and meet in your blog hopping journey.

That really looks like a nice set of tools to have. I know when I have to seam rip my hexagons, I tend to loose my edges, really hard to get the thread out without ripping the fabric on small pieces.

ReplyDeleteExcellent review Kelly. That seam ripper seams awesome. And the stiletto looks like a handy tool too! My stiletto is very old and much smaller. The Famore Stiletto looks to have a much more comfortable grip and better usability.

I would love a stiletto because I currently use a Kabob stick and it is wearing out and I could see the seam ripper being very important in cutting out embroidery stitches that had a mind of their own. ReplyDeleteI don't own any Famore products but I could really use that seam ripper. Sometimes the un-sewing stops a project for awhile because it is just so tedious. Maybe my projects would get finished faster if I didn't put off the ripping. Great review.

ReplyDeleteI do not own any Famore products - just getting started, I bought our local quilt shop's plain jane fabric scissors and seam ripper. I still think this fabulous seam ripper looks like a castrating knife... if it were to come to my house, I'd have to hide it from the husband so he wouldn't be tempted to use it in the barn!

I'd love to win these tools! I already have a pair of scissors (the ones with the blue handles and 732 stamped on them) and they cut all fabrics (and almost anything else!) like a dream, so these two products can only be at least as good. I would love to try the seam ripper -- I frequently break the ones from the chain store so I figure they must have a design flaw! And I went to a quilter's demo event in December and they preached the value of using a stiletto. I haven't gotten one yet, but it's definitely on my list!
ReplyDeleteI do not own any Farmore tools - since leaving for university I had to leave all tools behind, there was no telling what was mine and was my mothers. So I started with getting my own scissors and needles and thread and soon a sewing machine. I would love to replace my Swiss pocket knife with a real seam ripper.
ReplyDeleteI would like the seam ripper because I usually use a small rotary cutter to cut through the threads, but the Famore one seems so much less awkward. I have another brand of stiletto, and, while it is useful, the point wabbles a bit. The Famore stiletto looks very nice. Hope I win! Thanks.

ReplyDeleteEvery year at Paducah quilt show I head straight to the Fanmore booth. Their scissors are the best. Not that the scissors need replacing every year, mine seem to become presents at workshops whenever anyone uses a pair for the first time.

ReplyDeleteI don't own any Famore products yet (our LQS closed), but I really love that stilleto. I use one all the time and I'm currently using wooden chop sticks that the tip breaks off just when you need it. Their tools are really designed well: take apart stilleto and removeable blade. Your wallhanging is lovely.

My ripper is the old fashioned kind where you have to manage to get the pointed end stuck into the stitch and let me say - somedays my vision is better than others. I have made some repairs to my ripping with my handy dandy fray-check :)

Nope--- I don't have any Farmore tools... but surely would love to! :-) My old seam ripper is just an el-cheapo model-- nothing special--- nothing like the Mr. Farmore Cutlery Seam Rippah! Cool lookin' tool! :-) And since I don't own a stilleto, I have to admit that my el-cheapo stitch ripper has to do double duty and serve as a make-shift stilleto! ReplyDeleteI do have a tiny. tiny pair of scissors. I use them to trim up my dh's hair above his ears, and also groom his nose hairs! They are very handy, and also for trimming threads from a quilt back! I love the looks of the seam ripper and stiletto!

ReplyDeleteComment: Ever since we saw Eleanor Burns adeptly use a stiletto on her TV shows, my mother and I have discussed getting one. We have looked for a stiletto yet couldn't find one at JoAnn's or Wal-Mart. Famore has to work far better than the orange sticks we currently use.

I love the design of the Famore seam ripper - it looks like it would be so easy to use and the ability to put in a fresh blade sounds like a dream. I've never used a stiletto - but it would probably help me sew a straighter seam at the beginning and end of a line. Great tools!

ReplyDeleteI'm still using the same seam ripper I got when I took Home Ec in junior high. Boy, is it dull! I don't own any Fanmore, but I think I could use that seam ripper.
I have this seam ripper and absoutely LOVE it. I don't use any other kind at all. I don't have this stiletto however. I really like the way this one looks though. I bought one recently and won't mention the name but I really do not like it because it's more flexible than I feel it should be. Plus it's thick and uncomfortable to hold onto. I like that this one is slim and metal.

ReplyDeletethe sad seam ripper than came w/my sewing machine. Wish I had a stiletto so I wouldn't sew into my index finger (it has several white spots inbedded). I am disabled and after buying fabric there isn't anything left for notions.
No, I do not own any Famore items. These posts have introduced me to the brand; thanks. I would love to say I have no need of a seam rippah but... AND, I love stilettos - no not the shoe but the sewing notion. :)
ReplyDeleteThat seam ripper looks like a surgical tool. I'm using my Grandmother's seam ripper which came with her machine. I guess I need a new seam ripper. I love that you can tuck the stiletto into itself. I have lost the clear cover of mine several times. :(
ReplyDeleteI have never heard of the Famore brand, but boy oh boy does it look great! I REALLY need a new seam ripper mine is so dull. I guess I've used it too much! :-) (I'm following you know too)

ReplyDeleteI do not have any Famore products but I think that is going to change. That seam ripper looks divine, I use seam rippers a lot and they can very quickly become dull. I do have a lovely old Stiletto with a very sharp point right next to my machine that I use daily.

ReplyDeleteI dislike my old seam ripper, have ended up cutting fabric threads instead of the actual thread I want to remove. Possibly due to failing eyesight (aging).
Would love a chance to win both tools and try them out.
I follow and I could really really use a new stiletto, that one looks better than the brass one I have that the top keeps falling off of.

ReplyDeleteI do not own any Famore products. Actually this is the first time (blog hop) that I've heard of this company. I'm not sure how I haven't heard of them. All the products look wonderful. I'm going to look for the seam ripper for sure. Nothing worse than having to take out stitches at least you want a tool that does the job, cutting your threads and not poking holes in your fabric.
