Ooooohhh Ahhhhhhhh.....(short shallow breaths).....Wow, aren't those beautiful? That is what I said the first time I saw Theresa Pulido's work. She was sitting at a table outside a large conference room. I saw her using this beautiful fabric and an hook. Theresa smiled as I approached and I asked what she was doing.... "Locker Hooking (which refer to the tools that are used), would you like to see?"...(really big smile on my face) "Yes!" Who would not want to know what she was doing with all that lovely fabric and those cool looking tools?
For those of you who are not familiar with locker hooking tools, I bet you want to know how it is done, don't you? I thought so.....
Didn't you think that was a great video? Feeling more confident that you can also make something very cool? (if your answer was not yet...check out Theresa's second video on her website: Color Crazy.)
This craft is a great way to deplete a whole lot of scraps and leftovers from other projects. Once used, you can shop for more fabric with a clear conscious!!

Actually I just learned to crochet over the Christmas holiday . . .so all forms of knitting and hook work are new to me and I'm very excited to try anything crafty. Hi Kelly, this is really an interesting skill. I have hooked a rug with short pieces of wool rug yarn before but have never seen this locker hooking before. I think my mom and I would like to give this a try. Theresa's demo is great!

ReplyDeleteI am new to locker hooking and am excited to find all the projects that you can do with it. I have shared my interest in this "obsession" with my fellow quilt guild members and found that I am not the only one who thinks this is a great idea to use up scraps of fabric. I will definitely be making gifts for next Christmas as well as some throw rugs for my own home using the techniques shown by Theresa. Thank you for posting the videos and info.

I have never done locker hooking and had never even heard of it till now. But I watched the how to video and I can do this! It would be a great way to use scraps. I can see me doing some abstract pieces this way. If I don't win, I am pretty sure I will have a locker hook on my wish list.

ReplyDeleteLove the bracelet. I made a small hotpad holder a year or so ago...lockerhooking is a great take along project! It reminds me, I should start another one. Summer is coming and we'll be traveling more.

ReplyDeleteAbout the only thing I've ever seen similar...my kid brother participated in rodeos (prior to getting girl crazy). He rode his horse in competition...barrels, poles, etc. My mother hooked his name into the saddle blanket. Not quite the same technique, but similar. This would be a great way to work up some of those stringy scraps of fabric.

I've never even heard of locker hooking until now. However, it's nice to know what is available out there. Since I'm so proactive about keeping and using even the tiniest scraps, this kit would be perfect. I want to make the house. It's to die for.
