The Electric Quilt Company (EQ) has joined in the Celebration and are offering their Quilt Design Wizard software to one lucky IHAN reader!!! Thank You EQ!!!
The Quilt Design Wizard software is for those of you who are beginning quilters and software users. This is a great way to start designing quilts on your computer. It has simple pieced blocks, straight/horizontal layouts, on-point layouts, and the ability to change colors. I like to think of it as dipping your toe in the water to see if you want to jump all the way in.

I have personally never used the Quilt Design Wizard software but I have the EQ6 Quilt Design Software. It has always been difficult for me to learn new material and I get intimidated fairly quickly and shut down when it comes to even thinking about learning new computer software. So for me to say I have really enjoyed my EQ6 and have found it very manageable to learn, really says something!!!

I am always up for a challenge if I have a partner, so if I win I would get you to figure it out with me....lol I like computer stuff, but don't know too much about the program either.
ReplyDeleteI had no idea there was such a thing! I've always wanted EQ, but the cost and the idea of spending more time on the computer when I should be sewing has always kept me from buying it. It sounds like the Quilt Design Wizard is just what I need! (I guess I'll wait to see if I win, but I have a feeling that I'll be ordering one soon!)
ReplyDeleteI have a little bit of EQ6 experience as my mom has it and I play once in a while at her house. I think I would use it more if I had it, but I still have lots of patterns I want to make without designing my own too.

Kelly, What a generous offer! BTW Happy Birthday! I'm fairly new to quilting. I have many quilt ideas in my head and think EQ would be a great help expressing my ideas. Like you, I shut down if things get too complex but I've heard good things about EQ. Thanks for entering me in your contest.

Well, I am new to IHAN as I just found the link on Happy Cottage Quilter's blog but I am intrigued. I have started using EQ that came with my Bernina Embroidery software...probably version 1! I am so to read manuals but on top of that mine was inadvertantly thrown out :-(

I have a hard time visualizing designs in my head and knowing how they will look... this wonderful software would allow me to "see" my quilts before I start cutting and I would be much more successful in the end!

Oh, this is a fabulous give-away. I've never used Electronic Quilting software, so I'd love to try this out. It looks like it is EQ on a smaller scale, so I could try it before I go the whole hog and get EQ6. It would be fun to try a lay outs of blocks and quilts before I commit to fabric. Crossing my fingers :D.

I LOVE EQ!! Not too good at it, but good enoough to get me by. I purchased EQ a couple of years ago when I hosted a Civil War Love Letters Block of the Month at my local quilt store. What an incredible giveaway. I would love to win this as I have only seen it through blogs. Our LQS has classes on it's use too. I have just sorted my fabric closet and realize that I have to get busy creating quilts with ALL the fabric that I have.

ReplyDeleteAWESOME! I love the EQ programs and with my EQ5 software I was able to design a quilt; make it; impress some folks and complete the design and teach a class on how to make the quilt. The quilt was entered into the 2004 Robert Kaufman Quilt Quest...it did not win any ribbons, but it did travel the US and Canada! So yes I love the EQ5 that I have and hopefully someday soon a EQ6 will be apart of my equipment! I really cannot say enough about it!

I would LOVE to win this EQ looks like so much fun to play with. I've only ever seen it used at craft show here in Australia and am always afraid to ask how much does it cost because the mark up and exchange rate make buying things from USA really expensive.

EQ software is the best! I have EQ6 and use it so much! I started a BOM the first of the year and was having trouble with my fabric choices. I just added them to EQ, drew up my block, added the fabrics until I got them where they looked great. What a great help!

Oh, yes - the matter of drawing my name for this prize - please, please, please! How fun it would be to create your own quilt. The quilting process is so personal any way, that to create the design would add just that much more to the finished quilt - it could be a keepsake!

I had EQ 5 and 6 on my laptop, which has died recently, and the disks were lost in a move in 2006 so I have been without my beloved quilt programs. I loved how easy it was to mock up a quilt, figure out sizing, colour options, everything! I'd open it up whenever the mood struck, I needed some math help and it made quilting so much easier and enjoyable. And I never lose my work, like I invariably do with paper!

ReplyDeleteI love EQ!!! I got mine last year and have loved the ease of designing my own quilts! I think it is an excellent program for the price and the learning curve is pretty easy. I love that the manual was more like a step by step (with lots of pictures) workbook rather than just a "manual" I've also thought about getting the design wizard for those times I just need to do a simple quilt design

ReplyDeleteI love the idea of playing with a pattern (your Jan post), especially the storm at sea pattern! I have seen this pattern become ribbons of color--wondering how the heck they figured that out! I bet it would be easy to do with the EQ6. I'd love to give it a shot!

thanks for letting us know that the give aways are not closed yet! I have EQ (or any form there of) on my wish list...boy is my wish list long. Thank goodness for things like birthdays, Christmas, and Mothers Day right? =) I have a few ideas for quilts I'd love to see through and colored pencils and graph paper are not ideal!

ReplyDeleteI've been one of those standing on the outside looking in with EQ. It has been something I wished I had, but been afraid, like you of the extra learning curve. You have given me more courage to think I might be able to learn. I have lots of designs in my head, and some on graph paper with colored pencils. How much more fun to put them in EQ. I realize it would be much easier on EQ. How fun.

In a prior life long ago before PCs, I was a computer programmer. Now, I enjoy USING technology where it suits a good purpose. EQ is on the pricey side for just getting started and not knowing if want to use the computer for my quilt designs. The Quilt Design Wizard seems just right for me, a beginning quilter. ReplyDeleteMy DD drew a pattern in 2003 that she wanted to make a quilt out of. however, only ever having made 5 quilts I have not been very helpful in how to go about making this picture into a quilt. She is in the process of making this quilt completely from scratch. What a blessing this would be to us as new quilters.
ReplyDeleteI'd love to try some quilting software, after seeing the beautiful quilt blocks designed using EQ. It's so seldom anymore that I find any patterns in a quilting magazine that I'm just dying to make, so I'd like to start designing my own. I've tried designing in Illustrator (certainly better for the purpose than some programs) but this method doesn't give you templates with seam allowances or rotary cutting instructions.

OH, I LOVE EQ6!!! I just joined a super secret quilt challenge and had to draw all the blocks in EQ6. Luckily, the quilt shop that I worked at gave me one of their licenses, but if I lose my laptop, then I don't have it anymore. I MUST have back ups!!!! :)

ReplyDeleteHere is my story...hubby researched on his own and surprised me with EQ5 a couple of years back for my birthday. (I had never heard of EQ.) I tried to learn it and struggled a bit and gave up...and it has been sitting there ever since. I feel badly and now I hear of so many people using EQ with great success, so any help I can get would be greatly appreciated. I really DO want to master this!

ReplyDeleteAll my designing is done with grid paper and Excel (does the math if I enter the numbers right). It would be wonderful have software to design with in stead of paper and crayons.

ReplyDeleteWith the EQ6 being cost prohibitive, it would be awesome to try that software. I'm sure it would be easier than drawing in Microsoft Word or PowerPoint to make designs I'd like to color and try.
ReplyDeleteI've worked my way up through EQ from EQ2 to EQ4 and then had to drop out of quilting for awhile. I loved the little newspaper I'd get in the mail, and somehow I lost that, too. I've been wanting to get EQ6 for the last year and a half, but have to buy the whole program since you can't update from EQ4. Wizard would be fun to play with as I'm currently working in block format and with a lot of traditional blocks. While I love graph paper, my mechanical pencil, and my Prismacolor pencils, if you have a zillion blocks it can get gruesome!!.
ReplyDeleteAnd then I want a nice laptop that I can take to bed with me. I just got a wireless internet connection, so someday . . . I have Chronic Fatigue Syndrome among other health problems, and so I spend a lot of time in bed. If I'm not sleeping, I'm reading or drawing. I also have quite bad arthritis in my hands, so coloring and playing with a computer program would let me get lots and lots more quilts done, at least virtually . But someday, I'll get some of them made!
And eventually I want to be one of the quilters who gets my picture in the magazine asking, "Do you EQ?"
So -- I've been an EQ fan for a zillion years and each upgrade gets a little closer to what I want for drawing tools.
