Electric Quilt Company Celebrates With " I Have A Notion"

Day 4 of
30 Days of Giveaways

The Electric Quilt Company (EQ) has joined in the Celebration and are offering their Quilt Design Wizard software to one lucky IHAN reader!!! Thank You EQ!!!

The Quilt Design Wizard software is for those of you who are beginning quilters and software users.  This is a great way to start designing quilts on your computer.  It has simple pieced blocks, straight/horizontal layouts, on-point layouts, and the ability to change colors.   I like to think of it as dipping your toe in the water to see if you want to jump all the way in.

Want to know more?  EQ has an entire page dedicated to educating you about their Quilt Design Wizard software so you buy (or win!!!) feeling confident you know what you are getting and can use it once you have it.

I have personally never used the Quilt Design Wizard  software but I have the EQ6 Quilt Design Software.  It has always been difficult for me to learn new material and I get intimidated fairly quickly and shut down when it comes to even thinking about learning new computer software.  So for me to say I have really enjoyed my EQ6 and have found it very manageable to learn, really says something!!!

The Electric Quilt Company has made their software fail proof....and I'm not just saying that to be nice....it is 100% true.  These are just some examples of what EQ does to make sure you are successful once you purchase their software:

A host of demo videos available on their website-free-

  • What You Get with EQ6

  • Designing Quilts

  • Adding Borders

  • Printing Patterns

  • Importing Photos, Scans, and More

  • Drawing Blocks

  • More About Drawing

  • Quilt Gallery
 EQ also offers:
Newsletter
Club EQ
Lessons, Classes and Tutorials
Forums
Books (one comes with EQ6...others are available for purchase)
Tech Support
Customer Service

Oh, and I mention they have their own channel on You Tube?

They have crossed every "t" and dotted every "i."  If you have any interest what-so-ever in designing your own quilts or if you want to know what your fabrics will look like once cut into your pattern....EQ software is for you.

You probably want to know how to win the Electric Quilt Design Wizard software, right?

You must leave a comment on this post sharing either your experience with EQ Software or telling me why you would like to have an experience with EQ software

The Electric Quilt Company will mail the Quilt Design Wizard software to the winner of this drawing (drawing being held on 4/16). Comments will close on 4/15/2010.

If you would like to read about my EQ6 experience....click here. :)

For those of you who may be first time visitors to the IHAN blog, you may want to read more about the 30 Days of Giveaways and learn how to get more entries into the drawings.  You can click on the link above or go to IHAN website and on the left side on the bottom there is a link that says "Happy First Anniversary."

Smiles,
Kelly
(PS....I have no personal relation to the Electric Quilt Company and everything that I have written has been from my (very positive) experience)

  2. I am always up for a challenge if I have a partner, so if I win I would get you to figure it out with me....lol I like computer stuff, but don't know too much about the program either.

  3. I had no idea there was such a thing! I've always wanted EQ, but the cost and the idea of spending more time on the computer when I should be sewing has always kept me from buying it. It sounds like the Quilt Design Wizard is just what I need! (I guess I'll wait to see if I win, but I have a feeling that I'll be ordering one soon!)

  4. I have a little bit of EQ6 experience as my mom has it and I play once in a while at her house. I think I would use it more if I had it, but I still have lots of patterns I want to make without designing my own too.

  5. Kelly, I am like you, it is hard for me to learn new things. And this program sounds like a real winner. Thanks to EQ for helping those of us who need a little extra help. Wonderful giveaway, and thanks for entering me ;-)

Hope you had a wonderful birthday.

  6. Kelly, What a generous offer! BTW Happy Birthday! I'm fairly new to quilting. I have many quilt ideas in my head and think EQ would be a great help expressing my ideas. Like you, I shut down if things get too complex but I've heard good things about EQ. Thanks for entering me in your contest.

  7. I have always wanted to have the sw and have almost purchased it many times. It would be fantastic to win and get even more creative with my quilt designs.

  8. Hi Kelly,
I don't have any experience with EQ6 but I hear about often. Because of my limited income I am unable to purchase it. I would love to have the chance to win the give away.
    Happy Belated Birthday,
    Elaine

  10. I love, love, love EQ. And the Quilt Design Wizard sounds like a fun and easy to use software package that anyone could easily learn to create beautiful quilts. The price is extremely resonable too (amazing for any software package).

  11. Well, I am new to IHAN as I just found the link on Happy Cottage Quilter's blog but I am intrigued. I have started using EQ that came with my Bernina Embroidery software...probably version 1! I am so to read manuals but on top of that mine was inadvertantly thrown out :-(
So Quilt Design Wizard sounds like just the right thing for me. Thank you to EQ for celebrating with you. I'll have to check out their product support as I have alot to learn.
    Happy Anniversary IHAN!

  12. Happy Anniversary Kelly!! And Happy Birthday also!! Thanks for the great giveaway, I've always wanted EQ6 and never got around to purchasing it. It might be fun to play around and design my own quilt. Thanks again.

  15. I've never plunged into EQ, mainly the cost. The wizard sounds like it would be easy to use. The thought of being able to design your own blocks and check out the colours would indeed be a joy. Thanks for giving us the chance to win one. Sharonj.

  21. Oh, this is a fabulous give-away. I've never used Electronic Quilting software, so I'd love to try this out. It looks like it is EQ on a smaller scale, so I could try it before I go the whole hog and get EQ6. It would be fun to try a lay outs of blocks and quilts before I commit to fabric. Crossing my fingers :D.

  22. ooough la, la! what a lovely prize you are giving away with that EQ software!!! WOW, I can only dream that I'd be so lucky b/c as much as I'd love to have EQ and enjoy using it... I simply cannot afford it's price tag b/c as the Go Fish guys put it... "If you work all day and ya never get paid... YOUR a MOM!" :P

Thanks for all the great links and the tip that they are on youtube. I'm clicking on them all tonight! ;)

  23. I LOVE EQ!! Not too good at it, but good enoough to get me by. I purchased EQ a couple of years ago when I hosted a Civil War Love Letters Block of the Month at my local quilt store. It was an amazing tool that I could not have lived without! Love to own the newer toy! Tell EQ Thanks for the great giveaway and count me in!!

Happy Birthday by the way, and big birthday hugs to you!!

  24. What an incredible giveaway. I would love to win this as I have only seen it through blogs. Our LQS has classes on it's use too. I have just sorted my fabric closet and realize that I have to get busy creating quilts with ALL the fabric that I have.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Happy Birthday! I haven't quilted in a while but hope to get back to it very soon. The idea of creating on the computer sounds wonderful to me and I'd love to win this prize to help get me quilting again.

  26. This sounds like a great intro to EQ. I have not wanted to think about one but maybe if I had the exposure I might change my mind. So if I win...
I might have to have the lap top that my husband keeps trying to buy for me.

  29. I would love to win the software because as a novice quilter, I find my inability to imagine how various colors and patterns will work together to be my biggest stumbling block! Thanks for the chance!

    ReplyDelete
  30. AWESOME! I love the EQ programs and with my EQ5 software I was able to design a quilt; make it; impress some folks and complete the design and teach a class on how to make the quilt. The quilt was entered into the 2004 Robert Kaufman Quilt Quest...it did not win any ribbons, but it did travel the US and Canada! So yes I love the EQ5 that I have and hopefully someday soon a EQ6 will be apart of my equipment! I really cannot say enough about it!

    Thanks for the giveaway!

  33. I would LOVE to win this EQ looks like so much fun to play with. I've only ever seen it used at craft show here in Australia and am always afraid to ask how much does it cost because the mark up and exchange rate make buying things from USA really expensive.

  35. EQ software is the best! I have EQ6 and use it so much! I started a BOM the first of the year and was having trouble with my fabric choices. I just added them to EQ, drew up my block, added the fabrics until I got them where they looked great. What a great help!

  36. Your anniversary celebration drawings are truly an ingenious idea! You are getting people to look at products they knew nothing about previously, they are coming back to your site, you are planting seeds - you are a fantastic marketer! Great job.

And Happy Birthday to you as well!

Oh, yes - the matter of drawing my name for this prize - please, please, please! How fun it would be to create your own quilt. The quilting process is so personal any way, that to create the design would add just that much more to the finished quilt - it could be a keepsake!

  37. I would love to try EQ6 because I keep hearing all of these good things about it!

    ReplyDelete
  38. Quilt Design Wizard sounds like something I can handle and I'd be thrilled to win! For my purposes, I would have a hard time justifying the expense of EQ also, so this could be just right. Happy Anniversary, IHAN!

  44. Oh, what a great giveaway! I am so coveting this software! I would go absolutely crazy with it. I love designing but the math not so much.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Well... I love using the computer! I love designing and so I think this software would be a great fit for me. Since I am a visual person I would benefit from seeing my design worked out for me. Looks like great fun!

  46. Before I retired, my job had me using computers daily to do my work and solve problems. I love how they make life easier!! I haven't yet tried EQ, but if I did get this intro to it, I'm sure I'd be hooked.

  47. I had EQ 5 and 6 on my laptop, which has died recently, and the disks were lost in a move in 2006 so I have been without my beloved quilt programs. I loved how easy it was to mock up a quilt, figure out sizing, colour options, everything! I'd open it up whenever the mood struck, I needed some math help and it made quilting so much easier and enjoyable. And I never lose my work, like I invariably do with paper!

    ReplyDelete
  48. EQ is a dream, I've seen so many beautiful designs made on it. I've never tried it, but I would love to.

    ReplyDelete
  49. I love EQ!!! I got mine last year and have loved the ease of designing my own quilts! I think it is an excellent program for the price and the learning curve is pretty easy. I love that the manual was more like a step by step (with lots of pictures) workbook rather than just a "manual" I've also thought about getting the design wizard for those times I just need to do a simple quilt design

    ReplyDelete
  50. Oh....I could truly use that program!!

    ReplyDelete
  51. Like you...new technology and learning new programs isn't my favorite....BUT if you can do it, maybe I can too.

    ReplyDelete
  52. I love the idea of playing with a pattern (your Jan post), especially the storm at sea pattern! I have seen this pattern become ribbons of color--wondering how the heck they figured that out! I bet it would be easy to do with the EQ6. I'd love to give it a shot!

  61. I've been one of those standing on the outside looking in with EQ. It has been something I wished I had, but been afraid, like you of the extra learning curve. You have given me more courage to think I might be able to learn. I have lots of designs in my head, and some on graph paper with colored pencils. How much more fun to put them in EQ. I realize it would be much easier on EQ. How fun.
    Thank you for this drawing

  69. In a prior life long ago before PCs, I was a computer programmer. Now, I enjoy USING technology where it suits a good purpose. EQ is on the pricey side for just getting started and not knowing if want to use the computer for my quilt designs. The Quilt Design Wizard seems just right for me, a beginning quilter. Thank you for this giveaway.

  70. I have been debating getting some type of quilting software...this would be a great way to get started!

  71. i have ALWAYS wanted the EQ6. i've purchased the "Quilt Design Wizard" and love it but would really love to have the EQ6.

    ReplyDelete
  72. I've used their very scaled down cheapie version and i've always wanted the real version! So helpful!

    ReplyDelete
  73. I am in desperate need of this software! Try designing a quilt in MS Excel...that's exactly what I'm doing. Very limiting...

    ReplyDelete
  74. My DD drew a pattern in 2003 that she wanted to make a quilt out of. however, only ever having made 5 quilts I have not been very helpful in how to go about making this picture into a quilt. She is in the process of making this quilt completely from scratch. What a blessing this would be to us as new quilters.

    ReplyDelete
  75. I'd love to try some quilting software, after seeing the beautiful quilt blocks designed using EQ. It's so seldom anymore that I find any patterns in a quilting magazine that I'm just dying to make, so I'd like to start designing my own. I've tried designing in Illustrator (certainly better for the purpose than some programs) but this method doesn't give you templates with seam allowances or rotary cutting instructions.

    ReplyDelete
  76. I would love to win the EQ software! I am new to quilting and I think this would be a great learning tool as well as a tool to spark my "creative juices" I am a person that needs to see what a project will be before I create it!

    ReplyDelete
  78. I have seen what quilter can do with this EQ6 and it would be great to own one. That way there wouldn't be any doubt with the colors or layout of my quilts because I could make them to see on this EQ6. I would love it own one.

  80. OH, I LOVE EQ6!!! I just joined a super secret quilt challenge and had to draw all the blocks in EQ6. Luckily, the quilt shop that I worked at gave me one of their licenses, but if I lose my laptop, then I don't have it anymore. I MUST have back ups!!!! :)

  81. I have never used any quilt design software, but I would love to learn. Thanks so for the opportunity!

  82. Here is my story...hubby researched on his own and surprised me with EQ5 a couple of years back for my birthday. (I had never heard of EQ.) I tried to learn it and struggled a bit and gave up...and it has been sitting there ever since. I feel badly and now I hear of so many people using EQ with great success, so any help I can get would be greatly appreciated. I really DO want to master this!

  86. All my designing is done with grid paper and Excel (does the math if I enter the numbers right). It would be wonderful have software to design with in stead of paper and crayons.

    ReplyDelete
  87. I have just started feeling confident enough to try to design my own quilts. I find that I am struggling with color combinations. I know that this software would help...a lot!

    ReplyDelete
  88. I've been scared to attempt computer programs for quilting, but if they have a youtube channel, I'm sure I can teach myself. The program looks perfect for someone who is math challenged as I am!

  89. So many of my friends use EQ but I've never even tried it. I have seen some extraordinary quilts made with this design aid.

  90. I have wanted this software for years! I want it now. I design my own quilts about half the time, so this would be such a help for in figuring out how much fabric I need.

  91. I have Pc Quilt design but havent used EQ but would love to get the chance to try it out. I like to make my own designs up and it is nice to have a computer do the math work. Thanks for the give away.

  93. ReplyDelete
  100. I spend way too much time drafting patterns onto grid paper and I enjoy this process, but it takes too long. I would love to try designing with EQ Design Wizard and then move up to EQ6 if I can master it. I just saw an antique quilt in a magazine that I am itching to draw out. This would be perfect.

    ReplyDelete
  101. Oooooh.... EQ!! Beginning quilter... check... beginner software... check....IT's for ME!!! YAY!!! Fingers crossed !! xo

    ReplyDelete
  102. What a great way to design a quilt and have some idea what the finished product would look like.

    ReplyDelete
  103. I would love a chance at this. Maybe I could get some ideas out of my head that I haven't been able to so far.

    ReplyDelete
  104. With the EQ6 being cost prohibitive, it would be awesome to try that software. I'm sure it would be easier than drawing in Microsoft Word or PowerPoint to make designs I'd like to color and try.

    ReplyDelete
  105. I've worked my way up through EQ from EQ2 to EQ4 and then had to drop out of quilting for awhile. I loved the little newspaper I'd get in the mail, and somehow I lost that, too. I've been wanting to get EQ6 for the last year and a half, but have to buy the whole program since you can't update from EQ4. Wizard would be fun to play with as I'm currently working in block format and with a lot of traditional blocks. While I love graph paper, my mechanical pencil, and my Prismacolor pencils, if you have a zillion blocks it can get gruesome!!.

And then I want a nice laptop that I can take to bed with me. I just got a wireless internet connection, so someday . . . I have Chronic Fatigue Syndrome among other health problems, and so I spend a lot of time in bed. If I'm not sleeping, I'm reading or drawing. I also have quite bad arthritis in my hands, so coloring and playing with a computer program would let me get lots and lots more quilts done, at least virtually . But someday, I'll get some of them made!

And eventually I want to be one of the quilters who gets my picture in the magazine asking, "Do you EQ?"

So -- I've been an EQ fan for a zillion years and each upgrade gets a little closer to what I want for drawing tools.

(You can add the computer to my birthday list, but I still want Will Smith.)

    B.

  112. Happy Birthday from Findlay, Ohio. I am new to quilting and have made about 6 so far. I am amazed at those who can create their own patterns. The option to scan material and use it in the process would make this a wonderful tool. Please count me in to enter the contest. I would LOVE to win!
