Carrie Nelson, author of SCHNIBBLES times two was at Spring Quilt Market 2010

IHAN blogifers meet Carrie Nelson, Carrie I'm pleased to introduce you to the IHAN blogifers.
(IHAN stands for I Have A Notion and blogifers are those who read this blog...some folks have asked :)

Carrie is the author of SCHNIBBLES times two (published by Martingale & Company) and the owner of Miss Rosie's Quilt Co.   As you can see here she had a large stack of books to autograph and I certainly was not going to miss meeting her and getting an autographed  book to offer to a lucky IHAN blogifer either.   She was more than happy to autograph a book and asked each person a bit about themselves.  I have to say she was very friendly and full of life, a pleasure to meet and visit with.  My friend, Jocelyn, Happy Cottage Quilter blog, loves Schnibbles.  I already knew she had the book so I asked Carrie to autograph a Brewer Sewing and Quilting gift booklet and she did....how nice is that?  Very!  She even knew about Jocelyn's blog.  Cool isn't it?  Such a small world.

I was going to write a review of Carrie's book, SCHNNIBLES times two, but I don't have to.  Darlene, SewCalGal blog has done all the work for me.  She did such a nice job....
See what I mean?  She does such a nice job reviewing books and products that I get lazy :)  Darlene's post is a complete review with lots more information so you need to click on her link (or here) to check it out.

While reading Meet and Greet on Carries website I read this:
In trying to think about what I would tell you about "Carrie the Quilter", it would be this – I don't know any more about making quilts than you do. I have never made a perfect quilt, although I definitely aspire to do so one day. I have my preferred methods to do things but I don't think they are the "best way" – the method I use is simply the "way that works best for me". Nor am I an "expert" quilter, I have just managed to figure out how to work around my bad habits.
I have a great deal of respect for Carrie and others who are "real" when they share what they know.  "Real People Rock"!!!

If you would like the opportunity to own an autographed copy of SCHNIBBLES times two please leave a comment on this post telling us why you would like to own this book.  Remember to leave your e-mail address on your post if you are unsure if you are a no-reply blogger.  I skip over those comments and many people have lost their opportunity to win a great gift because there was no way to contact them.  Comments for this giveaway will close on Friday July 9, 2010 at the end of the day.

Thanks to everyone who made this giveaway and post possible : Carrie Nelson, Brewer Sewing and Quilting Supplies, Martingale & Company, Darlene Simmons and last but not least....my fingers for typing the post :)

Smiles,
Kelly

  1. Kelly, thank you for educating me in what Schnibbles are. I've been reading all about then in blogville, but no one explains what they are. Now I want to get into the mix and make one up. You are the best.

  2. OH I LOVE Schnibbles!! I've been doing the Year of Schnibbles, and have to admit to having the book, but would LOVE to get an autographed copy because, really Carrie rocks! And I don't think I'll ever be close enough to get one signed in person, she's one of my quilting heros, because she is real, and fun!

  5. OMG! I would love love love to win this giveaway. Carrie Nelson and her patterns are just the best (and IHAN is right up there)! Once when making one of Carrie's quilts and having difficulty getting pieces to do what I thought they should, I decided to take a chance and email Carrie and ask her. She responded to my email very quickly and provided the answer so pleasantly. If I recall, there may have been a couple of exchanges revolving around my one question. I was so impressed. I'm slightly envious that you actually met her! I hope to be able to take a class she will be teaching this fall when she is in Michigan. Thanks for the opportunity to enter and sure hope I win! 13. I would love to win it. I love and have been admiring all the scnibble quilts on the snibble quilt parade.

I haven't taken the plunge yet and ordered a pattern and would love an autographed copy.

  14. I love quilt books. They provide great inspiration for my next quilts. Many thanks!

  15. I've been reading about schnibbles and I know they have a HUGE following. Me? I have tons of schnibbles and I'm a beginner , so it would be a perfect match...

I could schnibble my way through the pile and make some fun stuff (AND LEARN A TRICK OR FOUR) along the way.

    How's that?

  16. I would love to own this book because I have a ton of charm packs to use up. I need some fresh new patterns!! Thanks for offering another giveaway!

  22. I just saw this book at Barnes & Noble in the quilting section, and flipped through it...the quilts looked fun! It wasn't in the budget to buy it, however, so I would LOVE to win it!!

    ReplyDelete
  23. I'd like to have this book since I recently sorted all my (what I now know are) Schnibbles, and have them all here waiting for the right thing to do with them.

And this book would certainly be the right thing.

  24. I have been reading about shnibbles and have wondered why they are called that..well now I know. :) Thanks for explaining it all to me. I would love to win the book as I have a few scraps that would be wonderful made up into a Shnibbles quilt :) Thanks Kelly :)

  25. Being German (but living in the US) the word Schnibbles always reminded me of Schnibblebohnen (well, beans cut in small bits & pieces) - until I saw the Years of Schnibbles in blogland. Nope, no beans: and I love it (and it erased my bean memories...)! The patterns look beautiful and down-to-earth, right down my alley.
Thanks so much for the giveawy!

  26. I would love to win this to use up some of my multitude of schnibbles!

    ReplyDelete
  27. So far my quilts are fairly simple. I've seen some Schnibbles quilts that are so very pretty and look complicated. Would love to have the book because know will need the instructions -- and it is a huge plus that is written by a "real-person" because Carrie probably knows how to explain things so I can avoid big mistakes. Thanks for this giveaway.

  28. I would love to have a Schnibbles times two book. I'm always looking for new ideas.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I love Carrie's Schnibbles designs, but prefer larger quilts. This book concept is just what I need. I could even make a quilt with a matching tabletopper (aka schnibble) :D

PS: I am grateful you have fingers AND that they know how to type LOL

  30. I would love to win a copy of Carrie's Scnibbles book! I've been reading so many great blogs showing the Year of Schnibbles patterns, but have never made any of them. Thanks for the giveaway!

  32. i save schnibbles and didn't even know they were called schnibbles. i'd love to win a copy of the book

    ReplyDelete
  33. I have lots of schnibbles, and I have just THE spot for a copy of Carrie's book.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I would love this book to get in on the Schnibble addiction. I don't have any Schnibble patterns and would love to correct that situation.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I'm getting old and I have never "Schnibbled"! I would love to win this book, because I don't think it is right for a quilter to turn sixty years old (ouch) without Schnibbling! Please help me out Kelly!

    ReplyDelete
  36. I have so many schnibbles of all different sizes. Many tiny ones, too, and I love to make miniatures. It would be great to see what ideas this book has to use all those schnibbles!

    ReplyDelete
  37. Well now I know what Schnibbles means, lol.
I will refrain from entering, still trying to finish what I started;)

  39. I would love to win this book, because I love her spirit, her ideas, and creativity.

  40. I've seen so many people's blogs where they are making Schinbbles - I'm happy to finally find out what they are! I love making quilts out of little bits of fabric so I think I would love this book.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I have looked at the Schnibbles patterns for a long time and finally bought my first one, one with several different pincusions. I can't wait to try one.

I like the idea of making your own charm packs or layer cakes from stash pieces, as a way of making better use of fabrics you may not love as much as when you bought them a long, long time ago.

    That ever happen to you?

    Kris

  42. I read Darlene's post about the Schnibbles time two and she always does a remarkable job on her post...and Yes...I am a schnibbles addict....due to Mary of Quilt Hollow...it is her fault...but I love them, want to do them, have five patterns, but no time to do them like I would like.....yes....I need that book....

  46. I had never heard of this pattern until recently, I am always open to new patterns and instructions, it keeps quilting on my mind. Thanks for having this giveaway.

  47. that book would be wonderful because Schnibbles are too small for me BUT Schnibbles x 2 is twice as nice (and big enough to wrap a person in). That's why! thanks.

  49. Thank you for your explanation. I find comments about schnibbles all the time in blogland and I'm a scrap quilter, for sure. You've got my attention---I'll have to buy both editions.

  50. I have already gotten a copy of the book and had Carrie sign it when she came to Nebraska for a couple of one-day workshops. I have to echo what Kelli says about Carrie -- she's down to earth, friendly, and, best of all, creative. Be sure to check out her blog, La Vie en Rosie, because she recently posted a Christmas variation on one of the quilts in the Scnibbles Time Two book. And when Carrie's busy, sometime Rosie (her Golden retriever) writes the column for her. They both [ ;-0 ] can be hilarious!

Would have loved to be a winner however, good luck to the lucky winner.
