Fun, Prizes and Gift w/ Purchase of Aurifil

It is time to head to Quilt Market in Houston again.   But, before I go I thought I'd have a wonderful book giveaway compliments of Martingale/That Patchwork Place :)
One lucky IHAN blog follower will have the opportunity to win not one...but all of these books!!!

Creative Mixed Media  by Sherrill Kahn is a fabulous book if you are interested in learning more and improving your skills with painting, printing, Stitching, Stamping and Embellishing fabrics....and really any medium...after all it is Creative Mixed Media :)

Double Take, Quilts With That Hopscotch Twist by Heather Willms and Elissa Willms is another fun book with 16 different projects. Each project is rated Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced...very helpful if you are new to quilting to start with a pattern you know you will be successful with.

AND Make Your Bed by Leslee Evans. What I love about this book is it takes the pressure off of me to re-decorate a bedroom. No need to make full size quilts for your beds....nope....you can make some beautiful quilted bed runners, pillows and pillow shams and have a whole new look in your bedroom.
(personal note: it takes a long time to make a quilt as a wedding gift...especially when some folks don't stay married for more than a few years....so how about a beautiful bed runner, pillows and shams instead...so much easier. Then on their 5th anniversary you can give them a larger bed quilt. Good idea ay?....of course I would think that since it was mine...lol.)
For your chance to win all three books, you need to leave a comment on this blog post and tell me what you would like me to research while at Quilt Market.  The winner will be drawn on Nov. 4th, 2011.

While I'm away shopping for notions in Houston, IHAN is running a special on Aurifil Threads....Yes Sir-eeee Bob! A U R I F I L....I wonder how much I can get away with this year?

With the purchase of any Aurifil Thread Collection...

(any and all collections...not just these shown)

You will receive a gift with purchase of one Posh Posies Snap Sack ...while supplies last of course.  When these are gone....I'll substitute something equally as fun and useful :)

Gift value: 15.00

Now for the IHAN fun of recent.  As Rosanna Rosanna Danna said, "It's always somethin'" and around here...it IS always something!  I arrived home from visiting Mrs. Waldo and this is what I saw:

All three boys had taken the vacuum extenders and any cardboard tube they could find and they had made themselves a "shooter."  I could not help but laugh.  Zach was blowing a ball out of his and Mr. McSteamy was the guided missile launcher and a rubber ball was blown through the tube and little "Go Go's" were smashed to smithereens.  Aaron was thrilled with the little window he had made in his "shooter."  He was able to see his little cars and skateboards being launched....way too much fun.

Yesterday the "little shooter" was home from school sick.  Hence...no blog post....he spent some time on an IPAD and this is what he created:

(click to enlarge...lets hope it works)

Apparently is an app for the IPAD that allows you to make cookies virtually and you can put a photo (taken with the IPAD) on your cookie, decorate it with sprinkles and candy...do all sorts of things.  How you do all of this?  Don't ask me...I have no clue...ya gotta ask a 7 year old!  I thought these were so cute...just another day with the IHAN clan.

I will be checking this post for comments and I'll be posting what I see...so stay tuned :)

Huston...I'm ready for blast off....zooooommmmmm

Smiles,
Kelly
PS...I will not be replying to comments while I am away.  If you need to reach me, please send an e-mail to IHaveANotion@yahoo.com

  1. Wow Kelly what a great prize!! I'm hoping you will have a great time at Market. And while you are there, can you check out any new teaching DVD's. I've learned so much for gals like Patsy Thompson and Eleanor Burns in the comfort of my own home. I can play them over and over, til I get it ;-) Have a safe trip!

  2. Hi Kelly, I would love to see if someone could comue up with a storage unit that has cubby holes and shelves, and doors that have glass on them so I could display my fabric and kits without them getting dust on them and I could see what I had without opening the doors. It would add charm to my quilting room.

  3. I'm a follower of yours, and this prize is just grand! Hmm, I've never been to a quilt market so I'm not sure what to research. Maybe a new tutorial? Enjoy!

  4. Didn't finish my comment. I would love to have the storage unit with glass doors to be under $200. That is important to me and I know to other quilters. Thanks. Have fun!!

  5. Enjoy Market. Keep up your research on the notions. You have a good eye and give us good recaps on all the new stuff after you have tried it.

  6. Hi Kelly, I would love to see a device for storing sewing thread.

    ReplyDelete
  7. I love Aurafil thread so I am game. Are there any new template/rulers coming out to make some new cool blocks with, maybe at market? That might be of interest.

  8. Kelly,
I've been looking for something called "pattern tape". My mom introduced me to it years ago, to use when altering clothing patterns. You could tape the adjustment to the pattern pieces, then easily remove the tape later, without ripping the pattern. I'm coming to the end of my stash of pattern tape (which I now use for a multitude of other applications, especially in machine embroidery), and I can't find the tape anywhere. Most people have suggested painter's tape, but it's just doesn't hold as well nor is it as flexible. Let me know if you find any! (We missed you last night at the meeting...have fun in Houston!)

  23. OOO, I don't know what you should research, but I am making purses right now, so anything to do with purse hardware etc would be great. Or I saw a ruler for crazy quilt somewhere. I'd like to know more about using it to cut patchwork.

    Have a super time!!

  27. Kelly, your guys really are so much fun!! It makes me miss having children underfoot 24/7! As far as investigating ... I'm really enjoying the thought of faux applique, with the colored pencils and medium, plus I'm always into the latest and greatest of quilting/sewing gadgetry! And fabrics that have metalic threads. LOL! I'm such a complex soul. Have a BLAST! :)

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  29. Oooh. Thanks for the giveaway. We were all just talking about hand binding vs. machine binding... anything you can discover to make hand binding easier or machine binding look better. You know, something magical like that would be grand. ;-)

  30. I would love to win these books! One of the things I have been looking for, for a long time, is quilting material with a book/library theme - minus animals! There are some cute ones out there, with cats on the shelves for example, but I just want books on fabric!

    ReplyDelete
  31. I love notions...things that make quilting easier especially new rulers and templates. I always also love to see the new fabric lines coming out. What will be the new popular color combination? Hmmm... Thanks, for a chance for those lovely books.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Oh how I wish I could some day go to one of these markets. It would be like I was in a candy store. Right now I would be searching for embroidery patterns, threads or any kind of notions related to embroidery quilts, towels, etc. Have a great time.

  33. I have no idea so I'll let you choose!!

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  35. Oh you are going to have so much fun! I'd love to know about any new gadgets or templates. I am a gadget girl. :-) Sorry your little guy was sick, but looks like he was hinting for cookies. ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  36. Sounds like you are going to have a lot of fun. Not sure what you could research since i don't know a lot about quilting. Anything for beginner quilters i guess!

    ReplyDelete
  37. Wish I was going with you but since I'm not I'm looking for a new way to store threads. Maybe something where they lay down so you can see their color but in a drawer or something to keep the dust off them. Have fun and thanks for the great giveaway!

    ReplyDelete
  38. i have a thing for quilting gadgets, sew, please do look for something odd, but useful!
the book are interesting, particularly the 'make your bed book' thanks for donating them to the cause.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Have a great time in Houston. Any gadget that makes quilting easy. Thanks.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Would love to add to my Sizzix collection so am interested what others are doing with the Sizzix dies

    ReplyDelete
  41. check on any novelty fabrics - I love the Dr Seuss line! Anything else like this?

    ReplyDelete
  42. Look for any hot, new timesavers in quilting; that seems to be the way to go nowadays, grabbing new young quilters who don't have much time to sew.

    ReplyDelete
  43. I have never been to any kind of Quilt Market so have no idea where to start. I'm sure you know best.

    ReplyDelete
  44. New rulers/templates. Thanks for the giveaway!

    ReplyDelete
  45. I would research sewing machines. I want a new one SOOOOO FRICKIN' BAAAAAD! I'd love to take a few for a spin.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Have a wonderful time at market. I have to say I am a gadget girl so please keep a look out for something wonderful and new that I must have. I look forward to your market reports. Thank you for a chance, but I would trade it to come to market with you.

  47. Funny about the men in your life. The books look fabulous.

I would love to research (everything)...not a good answer? Hummmmmmmm did I say everything....

    ReplyDelete
  48. Have fun at market Kelly. I'd love to see what kind of new rulers companies are coming out with. I love rulers that make blocks simpler.

    ReplyDelete
  49. HI Kelly--thank for the giveaway--I've been eyeing the Make Your Bed book for about a month now!
I'd like to know about lighting--I'd like something that goes on my machine but incorporates a bulb that helps me see the realistic color of fabrics. Kind of a Ott-Light TrueColor bulb that either attaches to my machine or better yet, I can switch out the bulb on my machine now. thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  50. I'd love to see if there are new machine quilting DVD's or new fabric dying techniques.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Have a wonderful time!!! I would love to see the latest "bag pattern" everyone will have:) Oh and how about the latest gaget? I hope your trip is safe, can't wait to hear all about it! Miss you!

    ReplyDelete
  52. Great prize! I am always interested to see the latest mixed media stuff! Or you could see if they have one of those things on Star Trek so you could beam me up and I could look for myself!

    ReplyDelete
  53. I'd love to see a ruler holder that holds all shapes and sizes of my rulers

    ReplyDelete
  54. Have a great time! I will leave the what to review up to you. You always seem to find subject matter I really needed to know about but hadn't a clue what to ask.

    ReplyDelete
  55. I'm interested in lightweight non-fusible interfacings that can be used as foundations for string quilts. Thanks for the great giveaway - I love Martingale quilt books.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Have a wonderful time. I'd like to know what is on the horizon for fabric cutters. Can't believe Accuquilt & Sizzix haven't developed a larger electic die cutter (Studio or BSP Westminster size). The Vagabond sounds great, but is limited. Even a Go size that takes the larger dies, would be welcomed.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Templates...I'm still sorting out what my options are there.

    ReplyDelete
  58. I'm on a roll!! Pick me! Pick me!! And I dig the bed runner idea... a lot. So at Market, I need ideas for machine appliqueing. Go find an old Pfaff machine and ask the folks there why my pretty embroidery threads shred and snap. Yeah, like a 20 year old machine--the brown and tan one. I'm sure they'll know what I'm blabbering about....

    Have fun at Market!

    ReplyDelete
  59. I'm such a fan of Ghastlies fabric; I like to see more of this type - novelty fabric that aren't juvenile.
Those books would be grand as I'm a new quilter. Have a wonderful fews days away.

    ReplyDelete
  60. I'd like to know more about quilting machines too--something I know nothing about--or just about anything new and quilt related! Great giveaway items!

    ReplyDelete
  61. Honestly I'd love to be able to buy great little quilting themed gifty items but I never find any that I like. A friend sent me a quilting keychain once and I've never seen anything like that around here.

  65. Thanks for asking us what to look for.....mmmh?
I'm interested in trying out some of the ergo rotary cutters for more wrist pain relief when cutting. Do some research for me...ok? I know we'll be seeing lots of pictures from you...just to entice me to go for my one day frenzy to the Festival....lol

    ReplyDelete
  66. I'm looking for anything that will make a left-handed quilter's life easier. I'm always modifying and turning things around. I have the most trouble with accurate cutting. Even scissors that are serrated to hold fabric are serrated in the wrong direction for me!! Have a good time in Texas. Hope I win your great prize.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Thanks for the book giveaway. Enjoy Market and check out new seam rippers.
It's a tool we all need every once in awhile.

    ReplyDelete
  68. I hope you just go and enjoy yourself. Bring back lots of ideas on new tools and time cutting methods, the new fabric lines and what's hot. But mostly, have fun, recharge and enjoy.

  73. Have fun at Quilt Market. I look forward to hearing your insights on new products, and your trusty recommendations.

Please don't pick me for your giveaway, as I need to clean up my sewing room, before I bring anything else into it. But I wanted to let you know that I added insights on your giveaway to my page where I share insights on contests & giveaways: http://sewcalgal.blogspot.com/p/giveaways.html

    ReplyDelete
  77. I would like to hear about anything new! Maybe some new notions :)

    ReplyDelete
  78. I'd like to hear about what's new in the machine quilting world for non-longarm quilters. It seems all the hoopla in magazines is for longarm machines, but that's just not in my future.
thanks!! have fun (wish I were there)

    ReplyDelete
  79. I have looked for a guide (stencil, tape, ruler) with a grid for marking the stitches for sashiko. Sashiko has longer stitches on the top of the fabric than the bottom. I've never used sashiko, and need to mark the fabric so handstitch evenly and straight on the quilt. Crazy request I know. There are already marked small projects on the market, but my quilt blocks are already constructed and ready to be marked for the sashiko hand stitchery.

    ReplyDelete
  80. I just signed up to be a follower! I love notions and aurifil thread. I can't resist a the latest and greatest gadget so I'm hoping to hear about some new "must have" notions.

    ReplyDelete
  81. Look out for Lucie Summers "Summersville" new fabric - inspired by her screen prints - awsome.

    ReplyDelete
  82. Kelly, I'd love to know if anyone has come up with a material that you can place/sew into the bottoms of bags and purses, to make them stiff and hold their shape, but that is OK to wash? Thanks for the chance to win!

    ReplyDelete
  83. What a great group of books. I hope you are having a fabulous time at Market!

    ReplyDelete
  84. You could research scallop rulers. I haven't seen them anywhere and I have been looking. Have fun.

    ReplyDelete
  85. I would love these books!! I wish I could be with you in Houston. I love paintstiks and would love to hear about the latest additions in colors and stencils.

    ReplyDelete
  86. I'm new to quilting so I'd be interested in anything you show. I love fabric of course, so new lines, new designers, new patterns and new books oh and new tools. lol. Anything and everything you show and tell I know will be just perfect. Thnks for the giveaway. My library needs some books.

    ReplyDelete
  90. Thanks for offering the giveaway.
Could you look at Rouenneries Deux at market?
