Working on a Donation Quilt Today and More

Waldo tells me, "we gotta each take in a baby blanket for donation to the next guild meeting."  How about that for some fire under my bum?

Ok, here is one of the one's I'm taking in on Friday Night (Black Swamp Quilt Guild meets on Friday night this month and we have a guest speaker, Vikki Pignatelli)...so that at least gives me one more day.

I found this quilt top in a thrift shop, apparently someone didn't want to finish it.  So I added some embroidery and I'm putting fleece on the back.  I thought a decorative stitch along the edge would be nice until I had to stop and start twice and then the stitching was off and it looked funny.  So I took the stitching out (choose your decorative stitches wisely....just in case you have to take any out).

Yep, I used my new Seam Fix to get those threads out of the fleece and the cotton.  In the process I learned about a new use for the rubberized tip.

Can you see all the stitching holes left in the fabric from where I took out all those stitches?  Well....look now:
I took the rubberized tip and moved it back and forth across the cotton fabric and it moved the weft and weave of the fabric and helped camouflage those holes.  Yes, you can still see where I stitched....but once I iron you wont be able to see that and the holes are pretty much gone too.  So there ya go....another thing to do with the tip.  By the way, the tip doesn't work as a stylus on I-Phones....I tried it...but it will turn a page very nicely....giggles.

Another thing I'm going to try is this paper stencil called, Quilting Made Easy.
You just lay it out where you want to have your stitches and you can align the design with the next row...
then remove the cover from the adhesive strip on the back.  Now all I have to do is stitch on the paper.  Have you ever used the Quilting Made Easy Paper Templates?  I'd love to hear about your experience.

How about a giveaway today....it is sort of cold and gloomy here....(I thought you might agree...a good day for a giveaway.)

I'm going to give away one Seam Fix - Seam Ripper to a lucky IHAN® blog follower that leaves a comment on this post telling me why you want one.  The Random Number Generator will choose a winner on Monday, October 15 th.  The winner will have their choice of color, Aqua, Fuchsia or Dark Gray.

Smiles,
Kelly

  2. I would love to seam ripper, because all of mines are dull, half the time I can not find one, and I am always ripping something apart and I love the rubber tip. I have never tried that type of template befor, I would like to know how you like it.

  3. I sew love those super fine tweezers for pulling threads, that you recommended to me. Can't imagine how this tool could be better, but if you recommend it - I want it. I have full confidence in your recommendations!

Still, it looks like a honey pot stirring to me! LOL!

  4. I have seen it at a couple of quilt shops but no one had used it so did not know how well it worked.

I have used the Quilting and Borders Made Easy. Love them both but a bit pricey.

  5. I watched the video for this gadget. it is pretty cool and I would like one because I can't always keep my finger nails long enough to pick out those threads. annoying job!

  6. I do a lot of un-sewing and those pesky threads are the bane of my existence. I could use a tool that makes it easy to get rid of them.

  7. That seam-fix gizmo looks awfully handy. I usually pick all the little leftover thread bits out with my fingers - tedious! - so this seems so much better. And for getting rid of the holes I scratch them with my fingernail, so again this seems better. Someone very clever must have dreamed this up! I would love to give it a try.

  8. You know I am always using a seam ripper when I sew. It would be great to have the clean up gadget too, as I always have those pesky little threads hanging on for dear life :-) It looks like a really cool tool! Thanks!

  9. Now that sounds a useful gizmo. To be able to get those pesky little threads off easily- there's a thought!

  10. I bought one of those for my quilting buddy's birthday and she said she loved it. So since I seem to be using a seam ripper a lot I think it would be a great tool for me too. Blessings Sandra

  11. Why I want a Seam-Fix ... Well to keep me company. You see there are days I spend lots of time unpicking and a new friend around would be wonderful. Seriously, I really want to try out the rubberized tip for removing the loose threads. Happy quilting!

  12. I could really use a Seam-Fix. This week I have had the hardest time keeping my quilt blocks in the right order. I've ripped out a ton and pulled out threads with my fingers and fingernails until they hurt! Thanks for the giveaway.

  14. i want one because my dear friend Kelly says they are amazing -and since I don't have a Famore seam ripper to fall back on, I clearly need it. Plus that great rubber tip will be so handy to clean up my messes.

  15. The Seam-Fix looks interesting and I'm gonna have to put that on my list as a stocking stuffer!

  16. Who wouldn't want one? I do no like having to take out all those little bits of thread...and I have my share of reverse sewing that I do, despite my careful ( IMHO) planning! The other day I sewed my quilt top to a photo that was enlarged, that was sitting on my sewing table...a perfect out line of my quilting stitch...and no, I was not happy about that one little bit!!!

  17. Oooh I would love one because I seem to spend ages unpicking, but the worst thing is then spending even more time picking out all those little threads that are left. I have always thought there must be an easier way and here it is!

  18. Any tool that can help me with the frogging process is a must have

  19. Sounds like an awesome little tool. You can't do a good job if you don't have the right tools, and I'm positive I don't have the right tools!

  20. WANT WANT WANT! LOL although in my case it kinda looks more like NEED! I love the pink one!! (I cant spell fiucshia bwahahaha so I will call it pink!)

  21. I want it because it's new and cool and pretty, you know I would never actually have to use a seam ripper.

  22. My seam ripper is my friend - far too often! I'm terribly intrigued by the rubberized tip, and would love to try it!

  23. Diane - I quilt with some lovely ladies every Friday, and I am the queen of ripping out seams. I would use it faithfully, when I saw the Seam Fix yesterday, I thought that would make great Christmas presents for my friends. Thank you for making me aware of the Seam Fix.

  24. I would love one of the seam fixes - i am a bit of a tool nut and like to collect (and use) a variety of products. Any colour would be great although the fuschia one would probably be the easteist to find (lol). Thanks for the opprtunity on the draw.

  25. I'm an un-sewer from way back, so some new technology in thread ripping would be good for me, thanks!

  26. I would *SEW* love to have one of those handy seam rips, if for no other reason than there's a PINK one! Plus, my current seam ripper is one of those 99 cent jobbers that has to be at least a hundred years old - the blade is dull as can be (I think even the POINT is dull!) & the handle is cracking. Probably from overuse!

I was thinking of getting a new one, but I was gonna wait 'till notions were half off! (you know how frugal I am!)

That paper template looks like just what I need to help me get started on quilting something other than straight lines. I was going to do Leah Day's FMQ challenge, but just couldn't summon the courage to start, and now, it's almost over, with me not having stitched a stitch! :( Not one of my proudest moments, for sure...templates might help!

If I thought it would work, I'd send you some sunshine....

  27. I would LOVE to have this. Of course I would need the Aqua one , because when not "rippit" the frog needs some water near by.;-)

  28. I sure would love to have one of the fixers since I rip out soooooooooo much. I also am anxious to try the templates for quilting.

  29. I am always trying to find a good way to camouflage holes left from unwanted stitches. What a great little gadget!
And I can always use another seam ripper.

  30. Hi, Kelly---I would really love to win this time. I am very curious about the tip, especially. Dying to try it!

  31. Wow, there is 'something new under the sun'--what a neat gadget the SeamFix-Seam Ripper is! Would love to give this gadget a try.

  32. I'm a new quilter, and might not be getting very good at piecing and cutting, but I could become a real expert at ripping out, and this sounds like it could help. Plus, I can always use an extra iPhone page turner for when my fingers are too cold to work, lol.

  33. The seam ripper and I spend a lot of time together so a new one would be a treat!

    ReplyDelete
  34. I need a really good one right now. I makes lots of mistake on seam. Thanks for the chance to win.

  35. I could really use this. I lost my seam ripper and last night had to resort to use scissors to rip out stitches on polar fleece - not fun.

  36. Having spent hours seam ripping today, i would love this! Thank you...oh and aqua is my color!

    ReplyDelete
  37. I would love to have one because I keep misplacing my seam rippers. This would be easier to find with the bright color and the big tip.

  38. Hmmm. I came across this blog quite by accident! I will be stopping by on a regular basis! And I could really use one of those Seam Fix Seam Rippers. Removing the left behind threads is such a pain, and this tool looks like it would get the job done much faster.

  39. I have been following you for a while and really enjoy your ideas. I really need that new ripper because I have been busy experimenting with free motion quilting and doing A LOT of ripping these days. Wish unsewing was as easy as deleting on the computer....
