Day 32 of 30 Days of Giveaways - Sew Red Silk Dupioni from Brewer Quilting and Sewing Supplies

IHAN's 30 Days of Giveaways
Anniversary Celebration
Day 32
(who wants this to end?  not me :)

I knew there would be a few of you lingering wanting to know what I was going to post today.  I'm sure the folks at Brewer thought I was actually going to keep these "to die for" red silks.....but I'm not.

The Sew Red Silk Collection features 16 colors of dupioni silks (18 x 22)   That is 4 yards of Dupioni Silk!!!  Red no less.....good thing I'm a person of my word or these beauties would be made into a quilt for my bedroom.

This is the In and Out Sew Red Quilt Pattern by Blue Underground Studios.  Oh I just dream of wrapping up in a Sew Red Silk Quilt.  I can also see a beautiful jacket for the holidays.

Piecing the Sew Red Silk Collection and making one of these jackets would be gorgeous I think.

Brewer Quilting and Sewing Supplies was so very generous to join IHAN in the First Anniversary Celebration.  I told them how much I love their Silk Dupioni and this what they sent for the celebration:

My only regret is not saying I also like a new home with a sewing studio that overlooks a garden!!!

If you would like an opportunity to win this incredible box of Sew Red Dupioni Silk Collection you need to leave a comment on this post telling us what you will make if you win.  Feel free to give us all the details....those are so much fun!!!  This drawing will be announced along with the other winners from the IHAN 30 Days of Giveaways....so stay tuned!!!  (hopefully today perhaps as late as tomorrow....I'm still counting folks :)

THANK YOU Brewer Quilting and Sewing!!!!

For all of you who are asking yourself, "what about the Gift Silk Collection, I didn't see that posted yet?"  It is going to be in the Grand Prize!!!
Smiles,
Kelly

  1. I would make a wall hanging with the beautiful silk and incorporate some embellishment.

  2. I would make a quilt for my mom. Red is her favorite color and maybe a beautiful silk quilt would persuade her to redo her quest/craft room (formerly MY room) into a more sophisticated look. (can you tell that I am NOT a fan of the decorating choices she made with what I still consider to be my room?)

  3. WOW the celebration continues Kelly. This certainly has been fun following your month of activities and now even more giveaways. I would turn the red silk collection into a custom art quilt to show off the beauty of the fabric. I have some designs in mind that reflect an art nouveau influence that I think would work.

  4. I'd make a quilt for me! I deserve it, don't I? Thanks again for the chance.

  7. Wow, thanks for such an awesome giveaway! I would love the red silk to make a quilt. I have no idea what pattern I would use - I would have to obssess over that for a while. :)

  8. Oh my gosh! If I win this I'm going to make a quilt of course! I"d LOVE this to make a quilt for Father's Day for my awsome Husband John. He's the best father ever, such an awsome father and stepfather to my two children.. we have four total! He deserves to be pampered a little, so I hope I win!

  9. The silk is gorgeous! And I've always wanted to wear something made of silk dupioni ever since my wedding 15 years ago when I made flower girls dresses out of real silk, but my own dress (which I didn't make) was made of polyester silk dupioni like fabric. It didn't seem fair! So if I was brave enough, I'd make one of the jackets--the Kelsey one or something similar. If I wasn't brave enough to wear silk (I have a toddler after all), I'd do some sort of silk quilt--I find those fascinating! Thanks!

  10. Wow - I'm doing backflips! (feel free to post the happy dance video that all the IHAN followers are doing)

The generator is probably going to draw my number for the Sapphire collection because of answering what I would DO to win it. Remember, you're my cohort - no one likes being a hort all by themselves!

But wouldn't this Red Silk collection add some ruby spark to my Sapphire jacket?

  11. What, I am first? Surely not. Okay, I have been thinking about trying to make vest for myself. WOW, red silk would be AWESOME for that. Yes, I do have a wild side!

I would have to make a muslin one first because I would never waste a SCRAP of that luxurious Silk Dupioni. I am sure I would find a million other uses for this delightful silky goodness. I might even share with a friend!

  12. Oooooooooh....... no words for how beautiful this is! That quilt looks really lovely but just imagine that in a jacket... It might just have to be a fantastic patchwork jacket with applique... Thanks for all these chances to win. What an amazing fab giveaway!

    ReplyDelete
  13. another fabulous giveaway! would love to give them to my 86 year old mom for her applique...she would make something amazing with it...(after I buy her some green to go with the red!)

thanks for the fun this past month...

  14. Oooooo...another chance for silk. I have thought a lot about silk, since you showed me its beauty, and I think that I would make quilted clothing. I have a jacket pattern I have designed that is tempting. But with four yards, I could make a dress, too. Yes, it would be different to use 24 fabrics, but why not. Silk is always beautiful! Actually, with four yards I might be able to squeeze out one for myself and my daughter. There is a great idea! Thanks for one more chance.

Here's hoping for either a daily or even (holding breath) the grand prize!

  15. Wow Kelly, what beautiful shades of silk. I've never worked with silk before, and I am not a garment sewer, but I think this would make a fabulous top or long flowing skirt.

  16. I'm thinking a quilt too! That's mostly what I make.How georgous!

  20. I think I would like to make one of those jackets, although which one, I don't know. Then I look at that quilt and I really want to make that, I can imagine how wonderful that would feel. Anyway, I'm sitting here sipping iced tea, not yelling at the computer. Eat more chocolate, it helps you count.

  21. I would love this fantastically colored silk fabric. I'm thinking that Sarah Vedeler's hearts would grace this fabric beautifully. Thanks for the opportunity to win this luscious fabric!

  38. These silks are stunning! Like you, I would have to have a quilt to wrap up in. However, the jacket is too beautiful & would make it so nice to show off these drop dead gorgeous silks. Do I have to make up my mind right now?

    ReplyDelete
  39. Oh wow, those silks are so beautiful. I have never made a quilt from silk. Is it strong? I think I would be tempted to make a quilt anyway, just because I know it feels so luxurious.
When I was a little girl, my mom had a satin quilt. It was a whole cloth quilt with the beautiful machine stitching in designs. I traced those designs with my fingers and loved that quilt to death. I used it for silking* as I sucked my thumb.

needless to say, I wore it out.
What a generous gift. Thanks again for the beautiful party you hosted here at your blog.

  56. I can't stop dreaming about making a silk quilt for my bed!
When I first started quilting a few years back I came across older book that featured an antique swedish quilt. It was like an oversized log-cabin design and it was gorgeous. I have never been able to shake that image away... :)

    ReplyDelete
  57. I love these silks they are beautiful. I think I would have to make some skirts or dresses for my girls.

    ReplyDelete
  58. AAAUGH! SILK! It's gorgeous! And I know exactly what I would do with it - make one of those beautiful quilts inspired from the book, "Quilts of Provence." Or maybe some Amish bars, with hand quilted feathers or Celtic braids. Something serenely rich and beautiful!

    ReplyDelete
  59. Would I have to make anything? couldn't I just gaze, and play with it forever!?

But seriously... something simple, paired with some other lovelies I think it make an awesome log cabin...

    ReplyDelete
  60. The colors are gorgeous! I would definitely be whipping up a scarf, flowers for embellishing, handbag oh boy this list could go on and on.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Wow, Dupioni silk... thanks so much with continuing the giveaways. Hmmm, what would I make? well, certainly a nice bag or two for sure!

    ReplyDelete
  62. Oh wow!!! What an amazing package!!! I would definitely be making a silk duster jacket. I would like to use the painstiks on it as well and make it an artsy piece. Thank you Brewer Quilting and Sewing and thank you IHAN.

    ReplyDelete
  63. OH boy would I love this box of silks!! I recently saw an interesting quilt pattern with a reverse appliquĆ©--you 'cut out' the material to expose the fabric beneath it. I immediately thought of this fabric I have by Michael Miller--it's a black background with huge spider mums (like 10" mums) that have centers with light to jewel-toned pinks. Imagine cutting some of that fabric to expose the the beautiful texture and sight of the red silk collection--oh, it's making my stomach do flips! I have been saving that Miller fabric for almost a year, waiting for the perfect pattern. And then today you have the box of silks. Match made in heaven♥

  64. Gosh, I THINK that with the Sew Red Dupioni Silk Collection I would make a QUILT! Oooohhhh, it's beautiful! I can see it now....gorgeous, soft, red dupioni silk on MY bed! Can't wait!

    ReplyDelete
  65. Ohhh, I would make some very pretty things for my new grand daughter, who will be born in May. I can see a fancy comeing home from the hospital dress, a matching silk bonnet, and a little jacket to match. So soft, and so pretty for a baby girl.

    ReplyDelete
  66. mmmm....with this I would be selfish and instead of donating a quilt to Childrens' Hospital Seattle (ok I might end up doing that in the end because a gift can be re-given...but go with me here) I would make something princessy (pinks and reds) and magical for my two little girls to play with, have picnics on, tell secrets under, play peekabo with and snuggle and read stories together. and 20 minutes later fight over who gets to take it to be that night!

    ReplyDelete
  67. Wow! Gorgeous! I will make a beautiful jacket and with the leftovers, I will make a wall hanging!

Thank you for allowing additional comments! I am at my library conference and have limited access to time and computers!

    ReplyDelete
  68. Well, sometimes being first works!

The first thing I would do with this silk collections would be to drink the the lush rich colors that define silk.

Then when I got my nerves quieted, I would design and make some "dress up" bags with the collection. All the girls in the family would get red silk for Christmas!

    Wow. It is so scrumptious!

    ReplyDelete
  69. I would add this to my crazy quilt and also make a jacket, a scarf, a runner....Thank you so much for the chance.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Here's hoping the third time is the charm. My first two comments are living in limbo. I love those silks and my sage green sofa is crying for some red silk pillow action. I also want to make a silk patchwork scarf with some beading on it.

    ReplyDelete
  71. A few years ago I fell in love with a pattern of a quilt made in silk dupioni which was constructed with lots of mini-cushions attached to each other. It looked so nice and comfy on the picture. I had decided to buy some silk to make one but was put off by the price... So these box of red silk would be IDEAL!

    ReplyDelete
  74. Ooooh, I can SO see a Little Somethin' Jacket in the Sapphire Sea Silk Collection.....mmmmmmmm

    ReplyDelete
  75. My oh my they are beautiful, red is just so one of my favourite colours. Off the top of my head it would have to be something to wear, fabrics that lovely have to be seen by lots of people. Patchwork jacket, short swing style with loose sleeves

    ReplyDelete
  76. These giveaways are unbelievable! I would make a quilt out of the silk. As far as what kind... not sure of the pattern, but I would mix it with other textured fabrics- minky, satin, embroidered fabric, velvet... Probably large squares with something appliqued on top with some embellishing.

    ReplyDelete
  77. Such beauty doesn't even seem possible. The pictures make me want to reach out and touch some fabric!! I would love to curl up in a quilt made of silk after a lovely bath. those colors make me want to cut small rectangles and piece them all back together in a scrappy silk.

  116. Thanks for this one IHAN and Brewer! I love the red silk quilt pattern by Blue Underground but I also have the Little Something jacket pattern on my table just waiting for the perfect fabric to show up. 125. I am a quilter and love the look of silk in quilts so might use it to make a quilt but I also like to make purses/bags so it might go into a bag. Oh, the possibilities, maybe a jacket - wouldn't that be luxurious!

  127. I have this vest pattern that I bought when I went to the sewing expo in Pullyup in March. It is called Venetian Vest by Brensan Studios. I having been looking for the perfect fabric and silk would be beautiful. The sample they had done up was made with oriental fabric and was to die for. They should have just let me buy the vest, I would have given it a good home with lots of love.

  131. Silky pj shorts and cami! I have the cutest Burda pattern I have been wanting to sew, with nothing suitable in the stash. (and it would be the gift that would keep on giving - I'm sure hubby would be happy about it too!)

  132. I"m not sure I can decide right away what to make. There are too many wonderful things that the fabric would be great for. Since I do have a longarm I would probably make a bed quilt. Thanks for all the giveaways.

  133. Decisions, decisions. I guess I'd make a quilt, but if I was lucky enough to win it, and fondle it, I just might change my mind! LOL!

  134. I would have to have more time to come up with the perfect use for those lovelies. Maybe living room drapes? Maybe table linens? Maybe a wall hanging? Maybe a quilt, or maybe something else? Beautiful though.

  138. When I posted yesterday it looked like I was first to post...but turns out i must have had something wrong with my computer cuz it did not get posted..
What I would like to do with this red silk is make a quilt for ME. I have a new sewing room with no decoration yet so I would like to make a "Darned Quilt" I took this class at Quilt University with Dena Crain and was it fabulous! To tell you a bit about it...Start with strips of curvy piecing with gradated fabrics. Now add some decorative stitches and trims to the piece. Now- hold on to your skirts girls...we cut out 2 identical shapes circles is how we started..flip flop the circles into the opposite hole and darn them back in place. I thoroughly enjoyed the class so now I want this new quilt done in beautiful silk with my favorite color red!

I would love to win the silk collection or any morsel of silk! Right now I am luxuriating (is that a word?) in the silk that I'm using to make prom gowns! Silk crepe backed satin, silk shantung, silk habatoi linings....oooooo sooooo much silk!!! Did I mention that I loooovvve SILK!!! Bring on the silk! When I'm not making prom gowns or special ocassion dresses, I'm outfitting a doll in silks!

  141. A wall hanging would probably be my choice. It would take me months, however, to move beyond the sensory joy of just having such beautiful textiles. A stash addition like that would last a long time...you would be compelled to use every tiny inch. Yum!

  142. I love silk, I love colors... what can I do with this??? so much things... just like that? I don't know! but I'm sure I will find some things...

  143. I am probably too late to enter this, but I think I would have to just stack them up on a table and look at them until inspiration struck, or just keep them there to look at. They are gorgeous. \

Thanks for a fun upbeat blog....it is always fun to read.

  145. I would make a wall hanging that would add some real punch to my otherwise boring, lifeless and dull beige living room. I can see it on the wall now. I'm thinking a nice red sunset or desert horizon would be just the pop (almost said poop, oops!!!) I need. Lots of free motion quilting with gold threads. It would be fantastic!!!!

  146. Red isn't really my color, but it is my sister's favorite.
I think a silk quilt would be beautiful on her bed. The In & Out pattern is pretty, but I also like the Winding Ways pattern. I am not sure how easily I could sew curved seams on silk though. It is worth a try.
I would also use up the extra bits in the Christmas blocks for the swap I just signed up for. Wouldn't that be a fun thing to find in your swap block when it gets home?

THANK YOU Brewer Quilting & Sewing for being so generous with your fabrics! Thanks Kelly for setting this up!
