Day One Giveaway is Today

I'm sorry it is so late in the day but this is the first chance I've had to sneak away and post to my blog. I promised a giveaway each day that I am away.

There will be 8 days of prizes to win. To make it even more fun, you won't know what you are winning. I will post a picture each day of a prize that will be drawn for at the end of the giveaway. So, I will randomly select one person's comment from that day and then a random number for the prize.

Please keep in mind that some of the books or patterns were floor samples so they are not exactly new....but in great condition. For example, the envelope on this Valori Wells pattern has a small tear. It is a brand new pattern and never has been used. Just a small flaw so I can't sell it at full retail.

To win today you need to leave a comment before midnight about the most famous person you have ever met and the circumstances under which you met them. Give the juicy details.....but keep it PG or close to it :) Well....of course if you have slept with Robert Redford then I guess you could spill the dirty beans.

If you want to win a prize for this weeks giveaways please be sure to leave your e-mail in your post. If for some reason your computer does not allow you to leave comments feel free to leave your comments on my web site and I'll include them in the giveaway.

Smiles,
Kelly

  1. Billy Joel...no great shakes though! It was Mother's Day and my husband and daughter took me to the Thai Restaurant in Southampton, NY. A very small restaurant...at the table next to us was Billy Joel...all alone. We briefly talked about his daughter. He was still married to Christie Brinkly at the time and lived in Sag Harbor...not far from the restaurant. He briefly responded to our inquiries and got up (he was already finished with his meal) and left the restaurant. That's about it!

  2. I have never met a famous person but if I could I would like to meet Johnny Mathis. I went to one of his concerts several years ago with a girl friend and we argued (jokingly)thru the whole performance as to who he was singing to.

  3. Arnold Schwartzeneger

He was standing in front of the terminal doors at Dulles Airport with a few other people. I was late, in a hurry, said "excuse me", expecting him to step out of the doorway. He didn't and it was only after I barreled into him that I realized he was A.S. This was in the late 70's.

  4. I have met the Queen of England her husband Philip and her son Charles and daughter Ann. When I was around 10 the family came to Hamilton New Zealand and we were given the day off school to go and see them. As I come from a famliy of car lovers and the crowds were to thick for us to even see the Royal Family, my mother decided to take us to have a look at the Rolls Royces they had been travelling in. Imagine to our suprise to have the royal family aproach the cars and stop and speak to us. The thing I remember most clearly was Prince Philip telling us to mind our toes for when the cars drove away.

  5. Once when I was a child we were eating out at a restaurant. Before we were done Nat King Cole and his family were coming from the back of the restaurant. We were able to get his autograph.

  6. I'm an aussie and mine goes back to 2000 and the Olympics and Paralympics happening here in Sydney. Mine would or could be any number of presidents or queens or kings that attended the games. I would say the most famous people I have have met are the amazing athletes who compete, particularly those with a disability who during the archery and wheelchair basketball medal ceromonies where just awesome about there achievements. I was there as a volunteer and was a presenter escort for these ceromonies

  8. The most famous person that I have ever met was Roy Rogers! Their was a Roy Rogers restaraunt opening near our home and he was at the grand opening. I was about 8 years old and I got to shake his hand! Being the cowboy fan that I am, I'll never forget it as long as live!

  9. I guess the only "celebrity" that I've actually met is Hugh O'Brien (AKA Wyatt Earp). I was a volunteer for the HOBY (Hugh O Brien Youth foundation in our town. We put on a leadership conference for local high school students each year. Anyway, at the national conference we all had a meet and greet time, complete with photos and autographs.

  12. I shook hands with Donald Rumsfeld. We happened to be in Washington DC for vacation and he spoke at a WWII memorial event that was happening, so we went. I do admire him and really appreciate the work he did for our country. I was very glad to shake his hand.

Comments: Hi, Kelly--I did not receive yesterday's Google email about the Valorie Wells pattern to win. I also checked my spam file. I only know about it because it was included with today's email, as well. Also, my PC does not want me to reply to your Google emails, even thought I signed up for and was validated with a Google account. Any suggestions? Thirdly, when I access your website, the photos on the home page, at least, continue to scroll and flash, rather than settling down as the page loads. Anyone else having these problems? Marjory Wilkin light purchaser and American Girl doll clothing seller, in case you have trouble with names, as I do. Beautiful day today so far!

  17. Weellll, as a child I met Sen Muskie and Sen Bill Cohen. Both were friends to my parents and they stayed with us when they were on the campaign trail. My daughter did shake hands with VP Dick Chaney (sp) and my son shook Prime Minister Cretien's hand. No movie stars in our line, but I use to save a place for Robert Conrad in case he was passing through northern Maine and needed a place to sleep....love at 7 who can squelch the hopes?

  18. I met Hubert H. Humphrey while he was running for President of the United States. I was in the dance line that marched with the band in a parade for a rally. He was so impressed with our band that he told us we would be invited to Washington D.C. for the inaugural parade if he won! (He didn't.)

  19. I met Ray Charles when I was in college. We were in DC for the Bicentennial and he played in Capital 4th program that our band played in. He was such an amazing and talented man.

  20. I was an extra in a movie when I was young. I got to meet Barry Bostwick and Jacqueline Smith. Kelsey Grammer was also in the movie, but as he was basically unknown at the time, I didn't know that I was meeting a star, when I worked with him.

  21. Through my husband's profession (he's a clergyman) I've been fortunate to meet many famous people - Prince Richard of Gloucester, Juan Antonio Samaranch, the Crown Prince and Princess of Belgium, John Howard (our previous Prime Minister), and George Carey (when he was Archbishop of Canterbury) - to neme just a few.

  22. I didn't meet OJ Simpson, but I saw him in an airport...on his way to or from his court appearance last year. He was surrounded by people, we were just sitting waiting for our plane to board. Closest celebrity sighting.

  23. Oh, I would love to have this pattern. I suppose the most famous person I ever met was Johny Cash. I was in Tucson AZ visiting my hubby for a weekend because he had been sent there on his job for 6 weeks, so he just called and said why don't you come down and spend the weekend with me. So I did. Now...I hate flying. The flight there wasn't bad, but I was still nervous as I prepared to fly home. At the airport, my hubby and I were walking around the kind of sight seeing a bit (he was trying to get my mind off of getting on the plane). Anyway, I was looking down at my feet as I walked because that is what I have always done when I'm nervous and my hubby said "HEADS UP!!!" just as I walked straight in the gentelmen walking toward me. I didn't get my face all the way up to see what was happening before I hit him dead on and my face got buried in his chest. I had not yet seen who I ran into but a gentle arm came around my shoulder as I was making my embarassed apologies and a deep rich voice said "No problem, but are you alright?" As soon as I heard the voice, I knew, and I looked up into a wonderfully handsome face grinning down at me. I apologized once more and he took my hand, patted it and said, "no need to apologize, it was my pleasure". Then he shook my hubbys hand, spoke with him a minute, then touched my arm once more and said, "you have a wonderful day and don't worry about that airplane". Now I am 5'9" and I literally hit him chest high with my face. I was totally surprised at how tall he was (about 6'3") I had always thought he was short, for some reason. I felt truly awful after the incident because no one had been paying any attention to him until they heard his voice...then he was rushed by a crowd wanting autographs, pictures, etc. But I got the very best memory of all, a gentle hug from Johny Cash, who I found to be a kind, gentle soul. This happened in early 1980's. I have met several celebrities when I worked at South Coast hospital in Laguna Beach but this one, being one of my lifes most embarassing moments was by far the best. teenietaters@msn.com

  25. Hi! Only just found you. So much fun giveaways and what an interesting question! The most important famous person I have met is Ellen MacArthur who sailed around the world. I made a point of being there when she came back in the vendee globe with her boat kingfisher (in London) and was lucky enough to meet her. She is a lovely and very down to earth person. And a good word for everybody! (Oh yes, and I met Prince Charles too, reading the comments above.)
