Day 16 of 30 Giveaway #2 Ohhhh Yeah - Alicia's Attic

IHAN's 30 Days of Giveaways
Anniversary Celebration
Day 16 Giveaway #2

I use Qtools Cutting Edge Strips when I am cutting fabric.  I make fewer mistakes when cutting therefore I waste less fabric.
My 1/4 inch seams are easier to achieve with my Qtools Sewing Edge Strip attached to my sewing machine bed.

This is how the Qtools Cutting Edge Strips work:

See what I mean?  It makes rotary cutting easier, more accurate and less frustrating trying to find that line again and again.  The fabric stops at the edge of the fabric so I know exactly where it is not like a piece of painters tape.

This is how the Qtools Sewing Edge Strips work:
Again, I have used painters tape but the QTools Sewing Edge Strip is thicker and allows me to sew with speed and precision   It aligns in front of the foot of the sewing machine for a perfect scant 1/4" seam. Another cool thing is that the strips are reusable and fit to the shape of the sewing machine.  Just think how much painters tape we will save....now you can paint your entire house!!!! Better yet....bring your painters tape to my house because it desperately needs paint in several rooms :)  And while you are at it....bring some brushes, rollers, pizzas, diet Pepsi, Tim Tams and a sleeping bag!!!
Marci Baker of Alicia's Attic has a new book coming out this spring!!!  The title is
"ABC 3-D” which has Marci’s strip pieced method of “Not Your Grandmother’s Tumbling Blocks” and also combines the most popular patterns out of Sara Nephew’s “Big Book of Building Block Quilts” and some great new patterns!  If you want updates on Marci's latest and greatest you may want to check out her blog.  She also has some great video tutorials on her website too!!

Here are some other books Marci has written:

Doubledipity More Serendipity Quilts

This is an e-mail I received from one of IHAN blog readers:
Hi Kelly
I Want To Win! Q-Tools cutting edge strips are one of my absolute favorite notions. They make rotary cutting so much faster and your strip width is consistent. They can also be used over and over and over again. Such a simple 'tool' with such great results!
Happy Anniversary,
Kathy Johnson
IHAN blog readers seem to be on top of all the latest and greatest!!!  LOL

Alicia's Attic sent 5 of each of the Qtools Cutting Edge Strips and 5 of the Qtools Sewing Edge Strips to be given to IHAN blog readers during this Anniversary Celebration.  One of each will be included in the Grand Prize Drawing.

Leave a comment telling us if you have used Qtools Cutting or Sewing Edge Strips and if not, why would you like to win them.  Four lucky IHAN blog readers will be drawn at random on April 15, 2010 after 10 PM CMT!!!

Thank you Alicia's Attic for joining IHAN in our First Anniversary Celebration  by giving IHAN blog readers an opportunity to own some of your fantastic notions!!!

Smiles,
Kelly

  1. I love the cutting strips! I've had them for several years and highly recommend them to my students. I'd love to try the sewing strips so I could get a better quarter inch.

  2. I think these cutting strips would be something I should use! If I don't win I might have to get some to use.

  3. I hate to admit this - but I had never even heard of these sewing or cutting strips before. Now that I've read your blog and googled them a bit - everyone's testamonials make them sound like the best things ever. Please count me in for this great giveaway :)

  4. I've had a makeshift sewing strip on my machine for years, but it's starting to curl up. I'd love to try this more professional version that I'm sure will last a good long time. Thanks. Kathie L in Allentown

  5. I don't have either product but can definitely see how they'd be a great help. Even with a 1/4" foot on my machine, I still don't get perfect seams.
Would love to win. Thanks for hosting!

  6. Wow - how cool. I've heard of putting masking tape on your machine but this sounds easier and neater. I would looooove to give these a whirl!

  7. I've bought books and rulers from Alicia's Attic and have looked at those two cutting items thinking I'd like to try them but I haven't yet. So I'd like to win either or both of them to improve my cutting and sewing.

  8. I had never heard of either of these products. But now that I'm aware of them, I can definitely see their value. Getting easier, more accurate cuts, and sewing more perfect 1/4" seams....this would be heaven!! I'd love to win both these prizes...thanks!

  9. wow, what a simple and perfect idea. If I don't win, I will have to look for them in Paducah...

  10. I was not familiar with Alicia's Attic. As a novice (very) quilter I do not have many quilting "tools" Count me in on this give away. Thank You.

  11. What a wonderful invention! I would love to try both of these, but especially the one for the cutting tool. I have a foot that supposedly helps me make a 1/4" seam, but it isn't perfect, so maybe I want to try BOTH! I love her site. I want the book that contains the Not Your Grandmothers Tumbling Block and I want one of her "ear" trimmers for the triangles. She is AMAZING! Do you know how HARD it is to make a tumbling block quilt???

    ReplyDelete
  12. I've never used these tools before, but I need all the help I can get with accuracy and precision!!

    ReplyDelete
  13. The idea is so simple in it's design, you'd think someone would have invented it sooner. What a great idea as I am not so accurate when it comes to cutting my fabric and I would really like to improve my cutting skills (and 1/4" sewing, too!)

    ReplyDelete
  14. I am amazed at all the great ideas that people come up with for tools. I have not used these, but can certainly see the time saving element in not having to find your spot over and over and over and....

    ReplyDelete
  15. I can say that the cutting strips are AWESOME...used them many times over especially when doing lots and lots of cutting of same size strip!

  16. Another day, another great prize!! This Birthday Celebration has been the BEST!! I have not heard of the Qtools Cutting or Sewing Edge Strips, but certainly would love to give them a try. Any help I get cutting is needed!

Thank you Alicia's Attic for your contribution to Kelly's Birthday!

  17. wow.. I need to be more consistent with cutting. But then we probably all do.
Count me in! this looks great to me.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I have never used either product but would sure like to try them. Anything that would make rotary cutting easier sounds great. I find my eyes get pretty lazy and tired at night and finding the correct seams allowance on the ruler is a pain. Thanks Sharonj.

  19. I haven't tried either the sewing or cutting strips, but they sound like they would be really helpful! I get easily distracted while sewing, having an extra line there to guide me would be great.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I have never tried either of these. I have been using a post-it note to mark the cutting line, but it's on top of the ruler, not below. I think the underside would be awesome!
Marci's video was an easy way for me to understand the best way to use the sewing tools in con junction with handling the fabric--thanks!

Oh, and, to use the seam ripper as a tool instead of a weapon!!!
    :O)

    ReplyDelete
  21. I need to win at least one of these, since I'm just about out of blue painter's tape. *S*

    ReplyDelete
  22. I have used tape but not this. Would love to give it a try! Rotary cutting is wonderful but this would be a superb aid.

    Thanks and good wishes.

  27. I currently use masking tape for this, but I really need a thicker tool. I would love to try these!

    ReplyDelete
  28. I have not used either of these products but the fact that it actually forms a physical carrier for your fabric sounds like a great thing!

    ReplyDelete
  29. wOw, there are so many great notions that I didn't even know about, and didn't realize that I NEEDED ! :)

I would love anything that would help make my cutting more accurate!

  31. I have never used them, but I struggle constantly with sewing that scant 1/4" seam. This would help so much! The other night I was cutting out some fabric and cut several pieces wrong. Now I have to re-order the fabric. Hope I can get some more. Maybe with Qtools Cutting Strips it wouldn't have happened.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I haven't ever used this, but it seems like an AWESOME idea!

    ReplyDelete
  33. HaHa. I have one right now on my sewing machine and never new what it was. I went to a workshop and the instructor went around and put it on everyones machine. I love it. It's lasted quilte a while and is finally just starting to lose it's tackyness. Cool to know what I need to get now. I would love to use them on my rulers!

    ReplyDelete
  34. What quilter wouldn't enjoy winning these?!! I haven't seen them before, so haven't used them, but sure would like to! Thanks for the chance to win!

    ReplyDelete
  36. You're finding the most fantastic things to give away! I've never heard of these either. I'd like to win them bz sometimes my seams get a little wonky due to the fabric creeping over my...GASP...you guessed it...painter's tape! I'm all for more efficient and fast!

    ReplyDelete
  37. I would love to try this on my upcoming quilt. Looks like it would be very handy!

    ReplyDelete

  42. Hi and greetings from Albany, Western Australia. Yet another tool I have not seeen in my local craft shop. I watched the videos and was amazed at how such a simple thing could be so effective. If I don't win this one, I will be buying one for sure. It will be great for me as I like to cut all my leftovers into scraps (I usually save up a whole bunch) and make scrap quilts. Thanks so much for making this possible. Sam (Sandra) s.downes@murdoch.edu.au

  43. Thank you for this giveaway of yet another useful notion. Both my mother and I have issues with sewing scant quarter inch seams and cutting straight strips. It would be helpful to have these tools Qtools and Sewing Edge tools to use. I know our piecing will improve if the seams are crisp and straight:)) mlwright29 {at) hotmail {dot} com

    ReplyDelete
  88. I've not used either product, but the recently-acquired 1/4-inch foot for my machine is NOT 1/4 inch! It's about 5/16, which adds up fast! I could really use that guide for my seams. I also love the ruler guide idea, would save loads of time.

    ReplyDelete
  89. I've never heard of, so have not tried the strips. I would love to win, but hate to admit how much trouble I have moving the needle to get the perfect seam size. This sounds like it would be the solution to that and my fabric movement issues.

    ReplyDelete
  90. Thank you Alicia's Attic for donating this item to the Giveaway. I have not used these items, but think the 1/4" edge one would work beautiful on my sewing machine! The ruler one looks fascinating too and I cut a lot of strips and squares.
